The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. Employment location will be Niamey, Niger.
As Expert WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene), you will support and advise the program management in the development and implementation of Welthungerhilfe’s WASH strategy in Niger through emergency relief and development activities in the project regions Diffa, Tillabery and Tahoua. In doing so, you will be responsible for the conception as well as for a well thought-out technical quality of the local infrastructure and its monitoring.
Your responsibilities

Propose and design relevant WASH components of interventions in target communities, taking into account the triple Nexus approach, and assist in the development of project proposals

Supervise and monitor the technical project implementation of WASH aspects and ensure the involvement of local communities, authorities and state technical services

Responsible for the conception of bills of quantities (BoQs), work plans and budgets

With support of the Human Resources department, select and train qualified staff in the field

Facilitate project assessments, monitoring and reporting
Your profile

A university or polytechnic degree in civil engineering, water management or a comparable specialised qualification suitable to the position

At least 5 years of project experience in the field of WASH for international (aid) organisations, preferably in the region and in an emergency/development context

Strong intercultural competence and willingness to work in a multinational team

Excellent coordination and organisational skills, including ability to work under pressure

Good mental and physical resilience and willingness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions

Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe’s project countries

Excellent spoken and written French and English; German language skills would be an asset
