The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with a contract duration of two years. At the end of the initial two-year contractual period, there are good prospects for conversion from a fixed-term to an open-ended employment contract. Employment location will be Bonn, Germany.

As Expert Data Science at Welthungerhilfe, you will establish and develop data-driven products and services as well as decision support systems by passionately advocating for the power of data. Based on the respective organisational needs, you will further develop data integration by ensuring that collected data is always available in an appropriate quality and can be evaluated. For this purpose, the organisation has created the necessary framework for your work with the project “Making Sense of Data”. You will coordinate closely with the responsible sub-project manager and our Marketing & Communications department to drive and coordinate the deployment of an appropriate Use Case.

Your responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of the organization’s data infrastructure, particularly by creating new data pipelines for further data sources

  • Define and implement data flows

  • Build and maintain data dashboards (and other solutions) in close collaboration with professional colleagues, always ensuring a lean and efficient design

  • Support our Marketing & Communications (M&C) department and other Welthungerhilfe units in gaining insights and enhancing performance through the provision and analysis of data, including:

    • Act as an advisor and sparring partner for the functional teams’ data analysis needs

    • Provide operational support through the development, creation and provision of dashboards and ad hoc evaluations

    • Report on all M&C measures for controlling purposes

    • Extract and interpret data to solve analytical problems (e.g. for the Executive Management)

  • Plan and execute maintenance of data infrastructure (e.g. extensions, updates, fixes)

  • Highlight new opportunities arising from new market developments for the functional departments as a stimulus for state-of-the-art data analyses

Your profile

  • A university/polytechnic degree or completed training in a relevant field such as computer science, mathematics, data management or similar

  • Professional experience with database administration (especially relational database systems), data engineering/modeling, and building data warehouses/data lakes including the implementation of data pipelines

  • Profound experience working with:

    • SQL

    • ETL-processes

    • Microsoft Azure Toolstack (especially Azure Data Factory)

    • Data visualization tools (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau)

    • SAP (FI CO, MM) – ideally MFplus

  • Prior experience in marketing/fundraising as well as finance and/or project management is a plus

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Strong communication skills and intercultural competence

  • Excellent spoken and written German and English language skills
