To support our fundraising efforts and guide our programmatic narrative for USG and Private donors, we are in search of the next Executive Director, Resource Development Content Creation. In this role, you’ll oversee a top-notch writing team that produces proposals/applications, stewardship reports, and other communications products for US Government and private fundraising teams focused on individuals, corporate partners, and professional foundations. You’ll ensure timely and accurate content creation, efficiently manage the team to meet deadlines, and lead the evolution of CARE’s content approaches to better meet the changing preferences of donors.

To be successful in this position, you’ll need in-depth knowledge of communications strategies, technical understanding of CARE’s humanitarian and development programming, an affinity for building cross-divisional relationships, and the ability to manage HQ proposal response teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage the RD Content Creation team

  • Manage the output, performance, duties and professional and technical development of a team of writers responsible for writing and editing U.S. Government proposals, private donor proposals, reports and other development communications. The team produces up to 500 tailored written products per year. The ED is also responsible for budgeting, hiring and performance management, process improvements, and hiring/managing contract support as needed.

Ensure quality and excellence of content produced

  • The ED will ensure that all materials produced meet the organization’s standards for external communications. ED will guide and edit larger, more strategic proposal and report requests. ED will maintain relationships across the organization to ensure that CARE’s best strategies and thinking are reflected in the proposals and materials produced.
  • ED maintains assignment database and coordinates closely with IFS and RD Grants Management to ensure proposals and reports are assigned & completed.

Provide thought leadership, technical expertise to support Resource Development

  • The ED will stay abreast of market shifts, and evolve CARE’s content approaches to better meet the changing preferences of US Government, and private donors, i.e. producing impact videos, stories, dashboards as alternatives to lengthy stewardship reports.
  • The ED will develop strong relationships externally and across the organization to facilitate the collaborative development of winning proposals and excellent stewardship.

Knowledge Management

  • ED will ensure that proposal and communication products are organized, updated and available to the appropriate teams. He, she, they will work with the RD Knowledge Manager to ensure that CARE’s programmatic narrative for donors is consistent, updated and shared across the division.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, communications, international relations, or related field with 12 years of relevant work experience supporting business development in an international development context.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proven experience and track records in leading, designing, and writing complex proposals/applications for US Government programs and/or Private (Corporate, Foundations, Individuals). This includes experience drafting and editing proposal text related to development and humanitarian subject matter.
  • Demonstrated capability to independently manage complex processes and multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Expert writing, editing and communications technical knowledge
  • Firm understanding of relief and development programming and program development
  • Broad knowledge of online research resources
  • Strong familiarity with budgeting and financial reporting
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Fundraising experience or strong understanding of fundraising principles
  • Grants/proposal writing experience for both US Government and Private channels.
