About MIID: MIID (Myanmar Institute for Integrated Development) is dedicated to promoting sustainable development through innovative and participatory approaches. Collaborating with international donors, development banks, UN agencies, government institutions, and the private sector, MIID conducts studies, research, development planning, and project management in various fields. Our areas of focus include good governance, rural development, responsible tourism, natural resource management, environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and supporting peace-building initiatives and ethnic minority integration. Human and institutional capacity building are integral parts of MIID’s activities. Our headquarters are located in Yangon, with field offices in Hopong (Southern Shan State) and Thandwe (Southern Rakhine State), currently comprising a team of 28 national staff members.

Role Overview: The Executive Director, reporting to the Chairman of MIID, will be responsible for the overall management of MIID, encompassing research and development programs as well as administrative functions. This role involves supervising and supporting the MIID team in coordinating project activities, including managerial, financial, administrative, personnel, logistical support, and fundraising efforts.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Strategic leadership:

    • Provide strategic direction and leadership in alignment with MIID’s mission, vision, and goals.
    • Develop and implement strategies to advance sustainable development initiatives in line with evolving global and local trends.
  • Team management and capacity building:

    • Mentor, motivate, and supervise a diverse team, promoting a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
    • Facilitate capacity-building initiatives to enhance the skills and knowledge of staff, ensuring optimal performance and professional growth.
  • Partnership development:

    • Cultivate relationships with local communities, I/NGOs, civil society organizations, private sector entities, and other stakeholders in support of MIID’s initiatives.
    • Identify and pursue strategic partnerships and funding opportunities to expand MIID’s reach and impact.
  • Project development and oversight:

    • Lead the identification, conceptualization, and design of projects aligned with MIID’s objectives.
    • Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Fundraising and resource mobilization:

    • Develop and execute fundraising strategies to diversify and increase MIID’s funding streams.
    • Identify potential donors, cultivate relationships, and prepare compelling proposals to secure grants, sponsorships, and other financial support.
  • Advocacy and representation:

    • Act as MIID’s spokesperson, representing the organization in local and international forums, conferences, networks, cluster groups etc.
  • Risk management and compliance:

    • Identify potential risks and challenges associated with projects and develop mitigation strategies to address them.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant legal, regulatory, and ethical standards in all aspects of MIID’s operations.
  • Monitoring, evaluation, and reporting:

    • Establish strong monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess project outcomes and impact.
    • Prepare narrative reports and review financial reports, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with donor requirements.
  • Organizational development:

    • Lead efforts to enhance organizational effectiveness through the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and systems.
    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within MIID.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., Development Studies, Environmental Sciences, Public Administration)
  • At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in project management, development work, or a related field
  • Experience in Myanmar
  • Demonstrated experience in managing teams, overseeing complex projects, and fundraising
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with a proven ability to engage diverse stakeholders
  • Experience working with international donors and understanding of donor regulations
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools
