NHS England

The New Hospital Programme is a partnership between the Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC) and NHS England & Improvement (NHS E&I), working collaboratively with NHS Trusts.

The Programme is now recruiting 2 new Executive Assistants and invites applicants from DHSC & NHS England & Improvement.

Through the delivery of more than 40 new hospitals by 2030, it will ensure the NHS estate supports the provision of world-class healthcare services for staff and patients, with sustainable facilities suitable for the 21st century with the latest technology.

With a renewed focus to invest in secondary care infrastructure set out within the Government’s Health Infrastructure Plan (HIP) published in October 2019, and reiterated in the Prime Minister’s announcement of 2 October 2020, this will be the largest hospital building programme in a generation and will help protect the NHS long into the future.

Representing a dramatic shift from previous ways of hospital building that were done relatively independently of each other within NHS trusts, this new hospital building programme brings together expertise in a central team. The New Hospital Programme team will engage with trusts to guide the design and build of each hospital and to maximise the use of modern methods of construction (MMC) to speed up the build, reduce costs and increase quality.

The 40 New Hospital Building Programme sets out a long-term plan of investment in hospital health infrastructure including capital to:

  • Build an initial 40 new hospitals by 2030 with a further 8 to be identified through an open process.
  • Initial £3.7bn funding package for the period 2021 to 2024.
  • Invest in new diagnostics and technology to drive ongoing Digital innovation.
  • Help eradicate poor quality existing buildings.

In return we can offer the chance to be part of a supportive and inclusive team, with excellent development opportunities, where your ideas, skills and expertise will make a real difference to delivering this key manifesto commitment.
