Job Description

TITLE: Outreach ESAVN Intern (1 intern)

LOCATION : Part time remote, part time in person; City Heights office as needed

START DATE: January 2023

DURATION: 4 months starting; 15-30 hours per week

Important Note: This is an unpaid internship.

BACKGROUND : The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities.

SCOPE OF ENHANCED SERVICES FOR ASYLEES AND VULNERABLE NONCITIZENS PROGRAM INTERN WORK : In this internship, students will have the opportunity to contribute to the ESAVN program in the outreaching and community engagement strategy.

Responsibilities

• Execute on outreach projects and craft new strategies to obtain ESAVN client’s referrals.
• Develop outreach materials, analyze the intended audience, research the best locations to encounter potential clients, and distribute materials.
• Build referral pathways with immigration attorneys and firms, raise awareness of case management services with immigration courts and USCIS, and conduct outreach to asylees and other vulnerable noncitizens.
• Identify community groups, coalitions, and agencies to further outreach efforts.
• Conduct outreach and develop new stakeholder relationships in effort to better support the ESAVN program.
• Attend and participate in community engagement events.
• Support the ESAVN outreach specialist in different tasks.

Learning Objectives

• Interns will learn to craft outreach strategies.
• Interns will learn to conduct different types of outreaching (in-person and virtual.)
• Interns will gain familiarity with outreaching stakeholders and other government and nonprofit organizations that also advocate for asylees and vulnerable noncitizens (human trafficking and domestic violence survivors)
• Interns will develop public relations and communication skills and learn about community engagement.
• Interns will be able to attend different events and scenarios and will have the opportunity to interact with our target population and other human rights/social justice/ agencies.
• Interns will develop creative skills to propose, craft, and design outreach material

Requirements

Qualifications

• Education: Must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program focused on marketing, business administration, communication, economics, finance, public policy, public administration, social sciences, or a related field.
• Work Experience: Prior experience in marketing, communication, business administration, or working with clients with a variety of immigration statuses, familiarity with refugee and asylee populations helpful, but not required.
• A strong interest in working with a diverse, low-income population is required.
• Excellent organization skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, empathetic, and ability to effectively collaborate
• Ability to use basic functions of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
• Language Skills: Fluent in written and spoken English. Proficiency in Farsi, Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Swahili, Spanish, or Russian desirable but not required.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle with current insurance and the ability to travel regularly in the area
