Position Description

MannionDaniels’ Conflict, Environment and Resilience Practice Area engages with governments, donors, and organisations to (1) address the root causes of conflict and vulnerability and (2) have a net positive impact on society, the environment, and the global economy by tackling climate change, protecting biodiversity, delivering social value and embedding sustainability. Environmental and Social Safeguards are increasingly used to prevent and mitigate undue harm to people and their environment in the identification, preparation, and implementation of projects.

To this end, we are seeking qualified candidates for potential long-term and short-term opportunities in Environmental and Social Safeguards issues, especially individual who have operated the fields of hydrology, coastal engineering, energy generation, labour relations and management, agriculture and natural resources, disaster management, occupational health and safety, land use, urban and country planning, and land management.

Key areas of expertise could include any of the following:

• Review and development of Environmental and Social Safeguards for projects and programmes in line with the international finance institutions’ standards and best practice

• Social screening activities as well as review of grievance readdress mechanisms

• Environmental and social risk categorization

• Environmental and social safeguard assessment and completion of safeguards self-screening checklists

• Preparation of Environmental and Social Safeguard Plans and Environmental and Social Safeguards Management Systems and monitoring of proposed mitigation measures, including spot checks

• Preparation of risk assessments and reviews with mitigation actions

Key Competencies

Candidates will be expected to provide technical expertise and guidance across all stages of the programme/project cycle from design and development, through implementation to monitoring and evaluation. Depending on the nature of the consultancy this may involve any of the following tasks:

• Proposal development

• Programme design

• Direct technical assistance

• Research and analysis

• Capacity building

• Evaluation and reporting

• Review of proposals and reports

• Knowledge management and dissemination
