ROLE PURPOSE

The Environmental Health Advisor develops programs on Environmental Health and Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (EHCCAM), considering the following:

EHSCCAM Mainstreaming and Targeted Programming – will design specific actions to target environmental degradation, climate change adaptation or use ecosystems to ensure the safety and protect the livelihoods of the children and communities we serve. Provides technical support in communicating publicly about the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation and what SCP is doing.

Programme Quality – connecting Environmental Health Sustainability and Climate Change issues with existing programming principles, such as adaptive programming and engaging deeply with communities and stakeholders.

Cross-Cutting Themes of gender, disability, and resilience.

This role will be responsible for the development, review and adherence of policies and procedures to ensure a healthy and safe working and learning environment.

To provide competent and professional environmental advice and services in line with organization needs. The Advisor will actively promote a positive and innovative environment -friendly culture. To deliver high standards of Environmental Health and CCAM competence to facilitate legal compliance and best practice on all matters relating to Environmental Health and CCAM.

The Environmental Health Advisor role will be supported by the Risk, Reduction, and Resilience Advisor and the Health and Nutrition Advisor, both positions from Thematic Programs Unit. S/he will work with the People, Culture, and Organization Unit for the monitoring of office policies and procedures in the workplace.

1. Related to Programming –
– Work with our members, partners, technical experts, and others to mainstream EHCCAM considerations in the design and implementation of our programmes in all contexts.
– Actively look for new and innovative solutions related to, for example, sustainable and accessible energy sources for displaced people, ecosystem services in programming, and waste management. Adherence to environmental dimensions of international standards such as, but not limited to, the Core Humanitarian Standard, SPHERE, and the environmental guidelines of UNHCR.
– Leads the exploration, establishment and operationalization of linkages with gender, disability, resilience, and other cross-cutting themes
2. Provide guidance to Management on how to comply with Environmental Health law in the Philippines and SCI’s policy on Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change. Ensure Environmental Health and Safety processes and policies are appropriately developed / compliant / audited / measurable and reportable to ensure continual improvement. These policies and processes should consider the following:
* Biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of natural resources;
* Climate change mitigation and adaptation, and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR);
* Pollution prevention and resource efficiency;
* Intergenerational and environmental justice
3. Assist People, Culture, and Organization Department in ensuring SCP’s Environmental Health and Safety compliance and governance. Facilitate and assist management in the investigation of incidents and hazard identification. Carry out and provide assistance to management in the investigation of incidents, hazards. Analyze data and produce accurate and coherent reports to support learning and prevention. Examples of data include those related to improving waste management, resource efficiency, and reducing greenhouse.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

* At least five (5) years of experience in developing, implementing and/or managing Public Health programs, with Environmental Health as major component and Climate Change as sub-component
* Master’s degree in Environment, Public Health, or equivalent experience
* Familiarity and experience with globally-accepted standards and practices on Environmental Health, Environmental Management, and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
* Proven ability to develop concept papers and project proposals, and support implementation.
* Proven ability of providing technical assistance including capacity building, training, mentoring and coaching.
* Can deal with various levels of stakeholders – from decision-makers at the national level to field-level practitioners
* Experience in developing and negotiating successful partnerships with institutional and private/corporate donors
* Has proven skills in program development and design, training design and delivery, and community facilitation processes, and networking and influencing
* Excellent oral and written communication skills; Able to articulate ideas and concepts clearly verbally and in writing
* Computer literate and adept in the use of MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
* Highly organized, with good attention to detail and developed ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet tight deadlines and organize work
* Can work well in highly stressful situations; able to manage multiple competing tasks, prioritize deliverables and meet reasonable deadlines
* A team player, willing to work long hours toward the attainment of program objectives and deliverables
* Understands and believes in Save the Children’s mission and vision; commits to its objectives and including the application of rights-based approaches; willing to adopt Save the Children’s methodology and framework
* Politically, culturally, gender sensitive and inclusive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
* Willing to travel within and outside the Philippines
