Environment Project Coordinator

About the Role

The purpose of this position is to support GAIN in advancing GAIN’s Environment Strategy work in country through the larger Nourishing Food Pathways’ program and the Environment workstream. In Mozambique, this workstream will provide guidance and technical advice to country programs, focused on the Animal Source Foods (ASF) project.

GAIN is looking for an Environment Project Coordinator who will be responsible for the overall activities, coordination, technical advice, and project implementation of environment activities in Mozambique within approved plans, budget, and quality standards. In addition, the Environment Project Coordinator will also support in the engagement, development and management of external partnerships with local environment organisations, support the design, development and implementation of new activities and projects linking food systems, nutrition and environment and provide strategic technical expertise locally.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Act as the focal point for GAIN’s Environmental work, both internally and externally for Mozambique
• Support the design, development, and successful implementation of the environment workstream ensuring that the project is on-time, on-budget, well-coordinated and of the highest technical quality. Ensure programme coherency to address both nutrition and environmental goals.
• Support the implementation of GAIN’s Environmental Screening Assessment for new projects in Mozambique as well as follow-up actions identified.
• Bring environment expertise from GAIN global programs and expertise into national consultation and planning processes in Mozambique.
• Integrate and align the environment work into GAIN’s national business plan.
• Engage key external environment partners and the private sector in project design, implementation, and review in relation to the NFP program as well as in GAIN’s ongoing environment work more generally.
• Be the principal country link to the cross-GAIN working group on the NFP Environment workstream and ensure connections to other work packages at country level.
• Write donor reports in collaboration with project teams, technical teams, funding team and support teams.
• Follow up on contract implementation including timely financial and narrative reports, disbursements and monitoring fund utilization in line with the jointly agreed deliverables.

About you

The ideal candidate should have broad knowledge on food systems and environmental challenges and opportunities, preferably relevant to the local context in Mozambique. Proven experience in project management in complex and diverse environments, preferably on topics related to environment and / or sustainable food production.

The post holder should have proven experience in delivering projects on time / on budget, using project management processes and tools including risk management, benefits management, financial management and quality assurance. Demonstrate experience in representation with key donors, government, and internal and external stakeholders.

You should have a strong analytic and technical competence in the areas of environment, climate change, food systems and nutrition, or closely related domains. The candidate should have an education background in in communications and marketing management/ social science/ economics/business or related work experience.

About our Offer

The starting gross salary on offer for this role is from USD 30’065 – USD 34’369 per annum, depending on experience.
