What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose of the position

The Enterprise Architect role supports institutional strategy-business-resource alignment, helps business leaders enable their future-state business capabilities, provides decision-making support, supports harmonization and best practices, and identifies opportunities for efficiency gains and cost reductions.

This Enterprise Architect role will be focused on the Business Layer of the Enterprise Architecture.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Helps develop, promote, and enforce enterprise architecture best practices;
  • Helps develop, promote, and enforce architecture standards for the Business Layer artefacts;
  • Ensures the reference, As-Is, and To-Be architectures on the Business Layer are maintained up to date;
  • Helps develop to-be architectures for the Business Layer;
  • Monitors quality of the information in the Enterprise Architecture repository for the Business Layer;
  • Participates in the IT Architecture Review Board assessing IT project impacts on the Business Layer, and provides support to project teams in preparing the assessments;
  • With Business Relationship Managers, participates in conducting as-is assessments of business solutions to identify pain points and opportunities for improvement;
  • Promotes the value of the Enterprise Architecture practice to stakeholders;
  • Promotes the understanding of Enterprise Architecture as a service which supports strategic decision-making, planning, accountability and transparency;
  • Provides user support;
  • Supports the Chief Enterprise Architect in tasks such as stakeholder management and metamodel analysis.

Scope & Impact

Remit: global. Provides enterprise architecture expertise across all the organization’s lines of business.

Relationships

  • Internally, interacts with roles including but not limited to Heads of Unit, Business Relationship Managers, ICT Business Analysts, Business Process Analysts, various ICT, DTD, and ERCO roles, Project Management Office Advisors, Project Managers, Change Advisors.
  • Externally, interacts with service providers and other enterprise architects in the humanitarian aid sector.

Education required

  • Master’s or Bachelors’ in computer science, information systems management, engineering, or other field of study related to business analysis or enterprise architecture.
  • Enterprise Architecture certification is a plus.
  • Business Analyst certification is a plus.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 10-12 years’ overall professional experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working with enterprise architecture tools and methodologies.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in large scale, transversal projects.

    • Must be able to assess Business Needs: whether Business Solutions meet existing needs, identify if existing Business Solutions can be leveraged to meet new Business Needs, propose ideas for improvement
    • Must be able to assess projects and their impact on the Business Layer, assess their fit within the existing business capabilities and business solutions, and identify if potential existing solutions can be leveraged
    • Must demonstrate expertise in Business Process Modelling, process harmonization, and process optimization
  • Soft skills
    • Communication and Collaboration — Must be a strong listener, communicator and collaborator. Must be able to communicate and adapt to different stakeholder groups. Must be able to facilitate group work sessions. Given the scope of enterprise architecture, the person must be able to create strong collaborations and trust relationships in order achieve EA program goals.
    • Presentation — Must have strong presentation skills and be able to adapt to the audience.
    • Leadership — Must be a catalyst for change and be a thought leader. The person must resist the urge to execute “business as usual” and push the organization to use EA effectively.
    • International and multicultural — Experience in a complex and diverse international environment is a plus.
