The Engineering Co-Op will focus on growing and developing technical skills in design, testing, and product development. There are multiple opportunities for students studying mechanical, electrical, electronics, computer science or related engineering degrees. The Engineering Co-Op Program is a 6-8 month commitment for current undergraduate students to take a semester off of classes to work and apply class room theory at a Watlow manufacturing site. During the co-op, students will collaborate with mentors, team leaders, project leaders, and other engineers while being hands on with strategic projects to the business.

Current Co-Op Opportunities

Watlow is recruiting for several different areas in our Technical Development Organization (TDO) which focuses around new product development and cutting-edge technology.

  • Manufacturing Engineer Co-Op (St. Louis/Columbia, MO) : Learn how manufacturing systems engineers and manufacturing process Engineers, team up with new product development and manufacturing operations teams to design, produce, create innovative manufacturing systems that will deliver industry-leading thermal systems products. Co-Op will be located in St. Louis and/or Columbia, Missouri
  • Mechanical Engineer Co-Op, Design (Hannibal, MO) – Learn and advance your mechanical design skills as you participate in creating and implementing the strategy for design automation. Learn about the creation of parametric drawing templates to facilitate the automated design of a standardized set of process/circulation/flange heaters and associated equipment using SolidWorks, the SolidWorks PDM functions, and also MRP and PLM systems. Coop will be located in Hannibal, MO.
  • New Product Development Co-Op (St. Louis, MO) – Advance your education in electrical or mechanical engineering as you learn about new product development (NPD). Projects will focus on thermal systems and/ or their sub-systems. Example: Electric heaters, temperature sensors, temperature controllers, etc. During the Co-op assignment you will be exposed to one or more actual NPD Projects and will participate as a member of a working NPD Team working in design, constructing and conducting test, analyzing test data to evaluate design solutions, building prototypes and developing methods/processes for manufacturing the production version. Coop will be located in St. Louis, MO.
  • Electrical Engineer Co-Op (Winona, MN): Learn and advance your expertise in electrical engineering and controls as you work with high temperature electronic signal conditioners for thermocouples and high-power switch gear for the Diesel Emission market. As well as work with medium voltage (600 to 100,000 VAC) systems, that include switches, transformers, fuses circuit breakers, as well as controls. You will be involved in all aspects of electrical/electronic design and production from concept to field installation. Co-op will be located in Winona, MN.
  • Embedded Software Co-Op (Winona, MN) : Advance your development skills in Embedded C/C++, Mathworks, python and Object-Oriented Programming. Work will include development and deployment to embedded targets, as well as verification and validation testing using python and our gauge test system. Co-op will be located in Winona, MN.
  • Desktop Software Co-Op (Winona, MN) : Advance your development skills in C#, WPF Xaml, Xamarin and Object-Oriented Programming. Work will include development of an automated memory / performance profiling mobile app, researching .NET MAUI as well as researching and configuration of automated mobile app testing frameworks. Co-op will be located in Winona, MN.
  • Mechanical Engineer Co-Op (Winona, MN): Learn and advance your mechanical engineering skills as you work with standard and custom temperature and power controls and thermal systems solutions. Perform 3D modeling and 2D design work with Solidworks; other CAD experience is acceptable. Collaborate in a cross-functional team environment to support new product design and modifications for improvement to existing products. Gain exposure to the production of the controls through interface with operations and supporting disciplines. Co-op will be located in Winona, MN.

Locations & Housing

Co-ops will be based at one of the below locations. For non-local students relocating to a Watlow site, a $1,000 housing stipend or furnished apartment (Winona) will be provided.

Qualifications To Apply

  • Current student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical engineering, electronics, computer engineering, computer science, or a related engineering degree
  • Must be at a minimum sophomore 2 nd semester status, junior status preferred, by the start of the co-op.
  • Available to start in January 2023 or June 2023 while taking 6-8 months from school to work at a Watlow facility
  • Able to relocate to a Watlow location for the duration of your co-op. Housing stipend or furnished apartment will be provided.
