Job Summary

This role will be based out of the research and development center for the company, located in Bensenville, IL. This facility houses multiple engineering teams where we work to develop new packaging solutions as well as mentor the engineers of tomorrow.

Reporting to the NPD Director, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for developing new product designs per product manager and lead engineer input with focus on paper systems and paper consumables. Responsibilities and projects include innovation, machine design, consumable development, concept development and evaluation, test plan development and execution, and other related new product development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Balance multiple projects concurrently using prioritization skills to effectively execute company strategy.
  • Work with customers, engineering team, vendors, product managers to identify needs and translate into products and/or processes, effectively meeting requirements for safety, performance, durability and cost.
  • Perform full lifecycle product development including design, development, prototyping, manufacture and product launch. Work according to a stage gate for engineering projects including new products. Communication of development updates and results to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with paper mills, production staff at our production facilities, and engineering teams to further develop paper product lines, consumables, and general understanding
  • Interface with field technicians to support ongoing equipment issues. Work closely with internal and external equipment builders related to BOM, running engineering changes, and value engineering initiatives.
  • Stay current with new and future technologies and software relevant to the existing platform and projected product direction. Advanced knowledge in beta testing, product selection, evaluating and choosing optimized technology to meet our future needs.

Requirements

  • 7+ years’ experience in new product development, with an emphasis in working with paper systems, paper development, paper creation, or paper packaging.
  • Electro-mechanical machine design preferred.
  • BS in applicable field preferred.

Skills & Training

  • Proven knowledge of engineering design software and equipment
  • Ability to design, implement, install and maintain electrical systems
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of electronic engineering codes
  • Ability to write technical reports and documentation
