The Team

The Corporate Partnerships Team manages Mercy Corps’ fundraising relationships with major UK and European companies. The team develops strategic and shared value partnerships that support social impact at scale in our priority areas including economic and market development, food and water security, climate change, peacebuilding, and emergency response, creating lasting impact with, and for, the local communities with whom we work.

We build meaningful partnerships through outstanding relationship management and partner services and through processes of co-creation and seeking shared value, as we work across the many teams at Mercy Corps, including Programmes, Marketing & Communications, the Executive Office, and with our programme and country-based colleagues around the world. This team sits within Mercy Corps’ Development Team, which drives and supports Mercy Corps’ strategies for restricted and unrestricted funding and brand profile raising.

The Position

The Employee Engagement Officer supports the Corporate Team in deepening partnerships with corporate partners and raising critical unrestricted funds through workplace giving. The Employee Engagement Officer will develop, maintain, and grow programmes that engage employees of UK and European-based corporate partners with Mercy Corps’ mission, with an overarching goal of increasing revenue from those sources. This position’s focus on employee giving and employee engagement complements and supports the work of the Corporate Partnerships team members in Europe, who manage a portfolio of high value, long-term relationships with major UK and European-based companies. Essential Responsibilities

WORKPLACE GIVING PROGRAMME PLANNING AND OPERATIONS

  • Work closely with the Corporate Team to deepen strategic corporate partnerships through employee engagement initiatives.
  • Work with colleagues across the Development and Marketing Teams to implement effective employee giving strategies to grow workplace giving revenue, based on a clear analysis of workplace giving trends.
  • Develop, design and maintain external employee fundraising and matching gift information materials (e.g. fact sheets and digital tool kits) in relation to employee engagement, corporate employee giving and matching gifts.
  • Respond to employee giving, matching gifts, and employee fundraising queries and initiatives.
  • Leverage tools and policies for increased workplace giving during disaster response and emergencies.
  • Track data and communications using Team stewardship tools to ensure the delivery of an effective programme.
  • Work with the Fundraising Operations Team to track income.

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT & FUNDRAISING

  • Increase workplace giving revenue from a portfolio of private sector partners.
  • Manage and cultivate relationships with key corporate contacts focused specifically on employee engagement and workplace giving.
  • Manage and cultivate relationships with UK and European-based workplace giving and fundraising platforms and develop and lead the strategy to grow Mercy Corps’ presence and influence on these channels to grow revenue from these sources.
  • Produce and share a steady stream of communications materials to cultivate, steward and share the impact of their support with corporate partners and their employees.

ENGAGEMENT & REPRESENTATION

  • Represent Mercy Corps at employee engagement and workplace giving events (both in-person and virtually) as a presenter and facilitator, bringing Mercy Corps’ mission and work to life in compelling, tangible ways.
  • Work closely with Development and Marketing Teams and other internal stakeholders to devise and pitch meaningful engagements for corporate partner campaigns.
  • Recruit, organize and supervise interns, temps or volunteers as needed for events or special projects.
  • Develop communications materials to report back to corporate partners on employee engagement events and activities.

Supervisory Responsibility: No direct reports

Reports Directly To: Strategic Partnerships Manager, Corporate, with a dotted line to the Senior Officer, Employee Engagement and Workplace Giving in the U.S.

Works Directly With: Senior Partnerships Officer, Corporate; Corporate and Foundation Partnerships Officer.

Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders

Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our programme participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects.

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the field of employee engagement, communications, marketing, fundraising or advocacy.
  • Successful marketing or fundraising experience or delivery of corporate workplace giving programmes.
  • Strong facilitation and project management skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, with professional demeanour.
  • Demonstrated people skills and customer service experience with a track record of managing professional relationships.
  • IT literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office and relationship databases (Raiser’s Edge desirable) and the ability to manage spreadsheets/trackers.

  • A confident communicator who genuinely enjoys working with a wide range of people and has a positive attitude and motivation to inspire staff from our corporate partners to support Mercy Corps’ mission.
  • Highly organised and diligent with excellent attention to detail.
  • Able to balance multiple priorities and work well in a team as well as independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Able to represent Mercy Corps externally and manage high-value partnerships, including corporate partners’ employees, workplace giving platforms, vendors and other stakeholders.
  • Strong interest in humanitarian and development issues, be dedicated to Mercy Corps’ mission of helping to build more secure, productive, and just communities.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

The position is based in London or Edinburgh and may involve occasional national and international travel. Mercy Corps Europe team members represent the agency both during and outside work hours when deployed in a field posting or on a short-term assignment or trip to country offices.
