Objective of the programme

To provide technical assistance to the government of Bangladesh in building capacity for routine immunization activities and surveillance for vaccine preventable diseases, aiming to increase access for safe immunization for all eligible age group, introduce new cost-effective vaccines, respond public health emergencies, expand vaccine preventable diseases surveillance, sustain polio free status and measles elimination.

Description Of Duties

Under the overall supervision of Head of the Sub-Office and direct supervision of the Emergency Immunization Coordinator, WHO Cox’s Bazar, the incumbent is expected to effectively discharge technical, administrative, and financial responsibilities in her / his assigned areas of work as assigned below:

  • Provide technical guidance and capacity building of the government and NGO partners to achieve program objectives of routine immunization & supplementary immunization activities
  • Provide technical support in planning and implementation of vaccine preventable diseases control activities and expanded Programme on immunization as per WHO quality standards and best practices
  • Provide support and monitor the quality of polio eradication activities including Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) surveillance and any supplementary immunization campaigns and to ensure any importation of wild Polio virus is timely notified and contained and advise on corrective actions.
  • Facilitate activities for Measles Rubella Surveillance, like strengthening of reporting network in the FDMN setting by identification and frequent sensitization of the medical and paramedical staff in the health facilities catering to the FDMN, investigation of suspected MR cases and outbreaks and facilitating collection and transport of MR samples to the designated laboratories.
  • Provide technical assistance in planning, implementation and monitoring of immunization and other child health related activities including implementation and concurrent monitoring at vaccination sites, cold chain vaccine storage points, house to house visits, NGO run health posts, PHCs other health facilities, training sites.
  • Provide technical support during emergency situations like flood, cyclones and other natural disasters and disease outbreaks in planning and monitoring of health relief activities in affected areas and for investigation of emerging diseases outbreaks including need-based assessments of facilities
  • Liaise and coordinate with the local government representatives, partner agencies, non-governmental organizations, and professional bodies for strengthening of above-mentioned activities.
  • Conduct regular analysis of epidemiological, surveillance and immunization data to advocate for and support follow up actions by the government and partners.
  • As a technical expert of WHO, make presentations, draft reports and strategic documents required for decision making and implementing at district and Upazila level.
  • Ensure propriety and follow established internal controls over use of financial resources.
  • Ensure regular review of performance of assigned Immunization Field Monitors (IFMs) and monitor their performance against standard deliverables.
  • Create and maintain a work culture that thrives on transparency, healthy work relations with other team members by observing highest ethical standards.
  • Work within the norms of WHO regulations maintaining a cooperative relationship with all concerned.
  • Submit monthly activity report to Emergency Immunization coordinator
  • Undertake any other tasks / duties assigned by supervisor (s).

Education

Required Qualifications:

Essential: MBBS/medical degree from a recognized university and Master of Public Health or equivalent post graduate degree in Community and Social Medicine / Child Health

Desirable

Experience:

Essential: At least 5 years’ experience in Public Health or Preventive Medicine

Desirable: Experience working in EPI

  • Monthly salary: BDT 153,695.00 (SSA – 8, Step I) (non-negotiable)
