CADUS e.V. (CADUS) is a non-profit and independent aid organization based in Berlin. Our work is primarily concerned with providing life-saving support to people in crisis situations. These can range from sudden onset disasters to protracted and complex slow-onset emergencies. We aim to enable the transformation of knowledge and technology. Together with local communities, we want to develop new and innovative projects that are both adapted to local conditions and actively shaped by recipients of humanitarian aid. Through interdisciplinarity, organizations and individuals should gain the opportunity to develop innovative humanitarian solutions via active participation in humanitarian work.

Position and context

The position of Emergency Response Project Management comes with high individual responsibility and demands structural development skills. CADUS e.V. is a relatively small and dynamic humanitarian organization. Due to the complex nature of emergency response operations, high commitment is demanded as well as flexibility and individual responsibility. Due to the complexity of emergency operations, a high degree of commitment, flexibility and personal responsibility is required. You absolutely need the ability to maintain an overview even in the greatest chaos and to prioritize and coordinate activities in a meaningful way.

Hence, the project manager should have joy in building structures, bringing in ideas and taking a share in developing the organization’s mission and overall strategy and structures.

  • This position is mainly responsible for supervising the Emergency Response Unit and its activities. S:he supervises internal procedures and the general organization of the ER Unit. The project manager is the link between management and staff and must be able to collaborate and coordinate with many different positions. S:he will also work with field staff to ensure effectiveness, organization-wide uniformity and implementation of CADUS’ SOPs and policies.
  • This position will coordinate the budgeting and financial controlling, administrative and HR support (including applications, mentoring and post-processing of grants and subsidies of different provenance).

Start Date: 01.12.2022

Full Time: 40h/week

Duration: 1 year with the option of an extension. Due to the highly dynamic situation in the area of operation, no assurance on extension can be given.

Position Location: Berlin, Germany, partially remote work is possible

Languages: English AND German

Key Duties Administration:

  • Grant accounting and record keeping (incl. application and report preparation)
  • Assistance in checking the provisions of public procurement law
  • Preparation of where-used lists, monthly/quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Preparation and implementation of calls for funds
  • Cost approval, invoice verification, independent clarification of problem cases in consultation with contractors and/or internally
  • Collaboration in project controlling, preparation of analyses, target/actual comparisons
  • Assistance in monitoring the development of income and expenditure
  • Awarding contracts according to procurement guidelines

Project management:

  • Elaboration and conceptualisation of the Emergency Response Unit
  • Coordination and organisation of the team and work processes during deployments
  • Communication with and coordination of emergency response projects (internal and external)

Marketing and fundraising

  • Supporting the public relations of CADUS (concerning storytelling and mission implementation)
  • Preparing and updating reports on current emergency response projects
  • Assisting in the creation of fundraising appeals and fundraising concept
  • Administrative coordination of the marketing strategy and its implementation

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in project management or a related field.
  • Experience in a similar position (NGO and/or private company)
  • Experience in budgeting and financial control.
  • Knowledge in organisational management, capacity building, fundraising and/or administrative management
  • Strong team management skills
  • Good analytical and writing skills
  • Able to work with rigour and diplomacy, withstand pressure and have good communication skills.
