The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until September 30, 2023. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Gaziantep, Turkey, with frequent travel to the earthquake affected areas.

On 6 February 2023, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit the region of Kahramanmaras in southeastern Turkey, affecting areas in southern Turkey and northwestern Syria. Less than 12 hours later, a 7.6-magnitude earthquake hit the same region. While the total figures of people in need are still to be determined, 12 million people reside in the affected areas of southeastern Turkey, including two million Syrian refugees. The death toll in Turkey and Syria currently stands at more than 44,000, and is expected to rise as many people are still missing and aftershocks as well as subesquent earthquakes continue to occur. Welthungerhilfe (WHH) has been involved in the response to the Syria crisis in Turkey and northwestern Syria since 2012, with programs across the full spectrum of humanitarian assistance and resilience building. WHH initatied a response across several earthquake affected areas in the immediate aftermath, including the provision of hot food, shelter and hygiene support to families who were left without safe shelter and personal possessions. In addition to in-kind services, WHH deployed social workers, psychologists and interpreters to the affected areas. WHH has subsequently defined a response plan that covers acute, life support and transitional assistance for those affected by the earthquakes.
