Emergency Child Protection Manager

The Child Protection manager will act as the technical lead on all child protection-related programming for the Save the Children emergency response. The job Holder will be expected, with limited support, to lead on child protection-related assessments, programme design and implementation and coordination with stakeholders. In addition, she/he will oversee the monitoring & evaluation of child protection activities and assist on relevant donor reporting. S/he will also be expected to play a leadership role within a response team, supporting and building the capacity of project teams and partners as relevant

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, social work, social development, or development work. Post Graduate qualifications in the same field will be an added advantage.
  • Significant experience working in an emergency response context or in fragile states
  • Proven experience in Child protection
  • Ability to identify the main gaps in child protection in the given context to inform a holistic response for children.
  • Previous experience of managing a team and of project management
  • Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluating child protection programmes in emergency, transition and development contexts
  • Ability to work both in an advisory and a hands on implementation capacity
  • Experience in capacity building and in strengthening various duty bearers understanding of and response to child protection.
  • Experience of representation and ability to represent SC effectively in external forums.
  • Excellent communication skills with a high level of written and spoken English
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
  • Commitment to and understanding of child rights, the aims and principles of SC, and humanitarian standards such as the Sphere Charter and the Code of Conduct. In particular, a good understanding of the SC mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support

  • Experience or knowledge of working and living in tough humanitarian contexts
  • Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities

Contract Duration: 12 months

Location: South Sudan, Maban
