Job Summary

We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer/Designer II. This position is located in Columbus, OH.

The Electrical Engineer/Designer II will support various government, commercial, and internal research and development programs at Battelle. This support will include design, PCB layout, development, test, and production of complex electronics and electromechanical systems. The ability to troubleshoot and debug existing systems is also required. The person filling this position will be expected to function as part of a technical team which may be composed of engineers, technicians, and support staff. Performs assignments of moderate complexity by compiling and evaluating design and test data, preparing technical specifications, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for product, process or materials specifications.

Major Responsibilities

  • PCB Layout design from supplied or created schematic
  • Generating and interpreting electrical schematics
  • Design circuit boards in accordance with IPC 2021/2022
  • Designing, fabricating, and integrating electronic systems as part of an integrated technical team
  • Testing and troubleshooting electronic systems
  • Ability to work on own or as part of a team
  • Ability to interface with clients both in defining system requirements and fielding equipment
  • Ability to generate appropriate documentation including technical manuals and procedures
  • Some travel and field work may be required

The Following Is Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with 3-5 years of experience or master’s degree in related field with 2 years experience
  • Sole US citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD top secret security clearance
  • Experience utilizing either Altium or PADS Professional for PCB Design
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering design tools and methods
  • Experience generating and interpreting engineering schematics
  • Solid grasp of basic electrical engineering concepts and ability to learn
  • Experience with computer languages/programs such as C, Matlab, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to take on technical challenges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Problem solving ability and commitment to quality results under schedule deadlines

THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED

  • Currently holds an active DoD secret or top secret clearance
  • TS/SCI with polygraph
  • Working Knowledge of RF design and material
  • Additional work experience in the electrical engineering field
  • Experience working in a lab environment, including preparing, conducting, and documenting tests, soldering, and wiring
  • Signal processing experience, both software and hardware based
  • Experience with standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, etc.
  • Reverse engineering electronic systems
  • Generating and debugging firmware code for microprocessors used in embedded systems
  • Experience with programming in additional languages
  • Experience with HDI (High Density Interconnect) design
  • Experience with DDR4 memory/High speed layout
  • Experience with High Voltage/High Power
  • Working Knowledge of High-Speed materials
  • Generate formal, production-level engineering drawings for fabrication employing ASME Y14.100 and client-specific drawing standards and templates
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% of the time
