Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in electrical engineering or equivalent from an accredited university plus 3-5 years of hands-on electrical and electronics engineering design and product development experience, OR Master’s degree (M.S.) in electrical engineering or equivalent from an accredited university plus 2 years of hands-on electrical and electronics engineering design and product development experience.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Plasser American Corporation is a part of the Plasser & Theurer group with 18 locations around the world and customers in more than 130 countries. We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to support our Digital Products, Measuring and Inspection Solutions Business Unit in Chesapeake, VA. In this role, you will work with a diverse group of electrical, software, and mechanical engineers on system design, development, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of measuring and inspection solutions for railroad applications. You will use sensors such as LiDAR, Line Profile Lasers, Line Scan Cameras, IMUs (inertial Measurement Unit), Accelerometers, etc.; design single-board computers, power system; define electrical interfaces; and integrate multiple measuring and inspection systems into a solution.

REQUIRED, DEMONSTRATED, EXPERIENCE:

This position involves but is not limited to the following. Must be fully vaccinated for the Coronavirus by December 8, 2021.

Technical Skills:

  • Working knowledge of the theory of electrical engineering and electronics design
  • Working knowledge of electronics product development
  • Knowledge of standards and best practices in electrical engineering design
  • Ability to transform technical and engineering concepts into product requirements
  • Collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends on components and products
  • Proficiency in using MATLAB, PSpice, E-Plan, and other relevant electrical and electronics CAD software
  • Knowledge in at least one of the following: C/C++
  • Working knowledge of server operating systems such as Linux and Windows
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook and in creating, editing, and formatting Microsoft Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint slides at an advanced level

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Previous exposure to electrical engineering and electronics product design and development in and for railroad environment
  • Exposure to multiple application software languages for example C#, .net, C++
  • Working knowledge of Confluence, JIRA and Project Management best practices
