Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Location: Harrisburg, N.C.

Department: Technical Service Group (TSG)

Reports To: Project Group Manager

Status: Exempt

Summary

The Electrical Engineer role is to represent the Site as a discipline lead electrical engineer for engineering projects, including providing technical expertise / direction to existing plant electrical systems and oversight of key system documents and processes, including short circuit analysis, arc flash, relay settings, surveys and calculations and records. This person will support other engineers, project managers, and outside (contract) engineering resources as discipline lead in the development and execution of project efforts and provide assistance to the Site Maintenance Department. Also, they will have the role of project manager when assigned and will be responsible for all aspects of the project (e.g., scope / resource / schedule / installation / financial), and for providing management documentation, status reports and updates.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Manage projects as assigned to support the business goals of the Company. For each project, establish clear and definitive scope, schedule, budgetary requirements, and work plan. Manage and facilitate / resolve scope, schedule, and cost challenges. Ensure design will meet project requirements with goal of zero safety and / or environmental incidents. Manage projects from scope conception through approval, field installation and project close out.
  • Project Electrical Engineering & Design: Provide conceptual design for approvals, up to and through design packages that are of “Issue for Construction” quality for projects with an electrical scope. Specify electrical equipment, such as, but not limited to, UPS Systems, Emergency Diesel Generators, MCCs, Switchgear, Transformers, Soft-Starts, Auto-transformers, VFDs, Capacitor Banks, Cable Tray Systems, Lighting, and Grounding Systems for projects. Prepare / review load lists, power system studies, single lines, equipment layouts, area classification, sizing calculations, schematics, equipment specifications, grounding, specification sheets, requisitions, and technical bid analysis.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Review and update Engineering documents such as Engineering standards, Basic Design Standards, P&IDs, area classification, electrical one lines etc., as it pertains to electrical systems. Develop, maintain, and audit programs for the discipline to ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70 & 70 E, and RAGAGEP. Provide leadership for the Arc Flash Program regulations and requirements.
  • Electrical System Reliability: Experience with electrical equipment design, specification, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Included are, but not limited to, generators, switchgear, circuit breakers, contactors, MCCs, transformers, motors, power distribution systems, VFDs, UPS, and other electrical equipment. Familiar with electrical construction techniques, installation practices, and plant start-up requirements. Ensure system documentation is kept up to date such as one-line drawings, area classification drawings, power, and grounding drawings, etc.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Strong problem solving, communication, and writing skills to understand complex issues and relate them to others in constructive ways.
  • Requires at least 8-10 years of chemical plant experience.
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
  • A recognized degree in an electrical engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Perform routine and complex engineering, design, analysis, or other technical tasks within the electrical discipline utilizing current technology, available standards, calculation software, templates, and cataloged products.
  • Requires working knowledge of electrical standards and applicable codes, such as, but not limited to, ANSI, IEEE, IEC, NFPA, and NEC.
  • Requires working knowledge of electrical studies such as electrical loading, electrical coordination, arc-flash analysis, short circuit analysis, and harmonics.
  • Provide oversight, guidance, and best practice for the designs and construction of electrical systems.
  • Actively participate in design ideas, scope development and reviews.
  • Familiar with Management of Change, Process Safety Management and Mechanical Integrity programs.
  • Working knowledge to utilize Windows-based PC with various software – Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point.
  • Possess highly effective communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact within engineering and operational environments and with Site personnel.
  • Project field work, issue and manage permits to work, coordinate contractor services, work with EHS, Maintenance, Production, Site and Corporate Management personnel as related to the project, insuring compliance with company safety policies to project activities, site visits and inspections.
  • Strong organizational and management skills; ability to lead and influence others for timely completion of project activities within agreed upon time frames through effective prioritization of tasks / projects.
  • Self-motivated; able to work independently to complete tasks and respond to requests, as well as collaborate with others to utilize resources and knowledge of others in identifying solutions.
  • Strong ability to follow up on pending items, track project progress and stay current on project status and milestones.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to new instructions and / or organizational priorities.
  • Able to grasp and understand critical process issues and to troubleshoot production engineering problems as needed.
  • Participate and make contributions in a “team” environment in working through project opportunities. Examples: safety training, audits, HAZOPs, planning, new process plans, etc.

Additional Skills Would Be a Plus

  • Autodesk Vault, AutoCAD 2021, Microsoft Project and MP2 skills.
  • Familiar attending online meetings using Microsoft, Teams Meeting program.
  • Familiarity and troubleshooting abilities with various device networks, including Device Net, Profibus, Modbus, Allen-Bradly PLC 5, SLC 500, 5000. SCADA / MMI interface platforms including Red Lion Controls Crimson 2, Citect, Wonderware, Honeywell Experion.
  • Process Controls and Instrumentation Design & Engineering abilities.
