Thank you for your interest in becoming an intern with The Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Inc. We are a private, nonprofit organization that owns and operates Monticello, the mountaintop home of Thomas Jefferson located in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Foundation has a twofold mission of preservation and education, and we succeed with the support of 300 full and part-time staff, volunteers and interns spread throughout the organization in a variety of disciplines.

Education and Visitor Programs: Monticello Guide (paid, full-time)

Monticello, historic plantation and home of Thomas Jefferson, the author of Declaration of Independence, is seeking undergraduate or graduate students to apply for the Summer 2023 Internship Program. Interns will serve as Monticello guides. Successful applicants will be eager to engage diverse audiences with the history of the founding of the United States. Tours of the site focus on the fundamental themes of innovation, freedom, self-governance, slavery, and its legacies. Monticello guides are committed to working as a part of a team to ensure an excellent guest experience. Candidates should enjoy engaging with a broad variety of perspectives about the past. Availability to work 40 hours per week for 11 weeks during the summer (May 15 – August 4), including most Saturdays and Sundays is required. Training will take place with weekly virtual sessions outside regular class times April-May 2023.

Education and Visitor Programs: Cahill Intern – Monticello Guide (paid, Full-time). Monticello, historic plantation and home of Thomas Jefferson, the author of Declaration of Independence, is seeking University of Virginia undergraduate or graduate students to apply for the Summer 2023 Cahill Internship. The intern will serve as Monticello guide. Successful applicants will be eager to engage diverse audiences with the history of the founding of the United States. Tours of the site focus on the fundamental themes of innovation, freedom, self-governance, slavery, and its legacies. Monticello guides are committed to working as a part of a team to ensure an excellent guest experience. Candidates should enjoy engaging with a broad variety of perspectives about the past. Availability to work 40 hours per week for 12 weeks during the summer (May 15 – August 4), including most Saturdays and Sundays is required. Training will take place with weekly virtual sessions outside regular class times April-May 2023. Must be currently enrolled at UVa.
