The Australia-Pacific Partnerships Platform (The Partnerships Platform) is looking for motivated and skilled professionals who are keen to make a difference. We seek passionate staff who work collaboratively to deliver ideas and advice that can help our Pacific Island Country partners meet their governance and stability goals.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Education Specialist for the Yap State Department of Education, FSM. This individual should have a proven track record in relationship management and providing senior educational advise to government officials and stakeholders. The ideal candidate is collaborative, respectful, flexible, and resilient, with a keen focus on delivering successful results in strategic advisory in the education sector.

The Education Specialist will be supporting the efforts to improve education which remains a significant priority in the partnership between FSM and the Australian Government, including through Australia’s funding contribution to the ‘Improving the Quality of Basic Education in the North Pacific (IQBE)’ grant from the Asian Development Grant (ADB).

The areas of focus of the assignment are:

  • Contribute to the LEA’s capacity development to support implementation of the Asian Development Bank’s Grant: Improving the Quality of Basic Education in the North Pacific (IQBE)
  • Provide senior education advisory services to the LEA.
  • Advice and guidance on cross cutting issues, including gender equality, disability, and social inclusion.
  • Report on progress as required by DFAT, NDOE and the Partnerships Platform.

The position is an accompanied, one – year posting with the option to extend. A competitive international standard remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate, including housing, and return airfares if required for international candidates.

About You

We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, respect, resilience and adaptability, and a preparedness to work with limited resources in a challenging environment, this includes the ability to successfully build and manage relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will have a Masters degree or higher in education planning, policy and/or management and administration or a related discipline with proven 10 years’ experience across the education sector. Experience in the Pacific region and working on similar DFAT or donor funded programs will be highly regarded.

You will be required to demonstrate a strong understanding of, and commitment to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), child protection and the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), anti-corruption and other DFAT safeguarding policies.
