NRC is looking for an Education Specialist to join our team in Kabul Afghanistan, the ideal candidate should have leadership and Strategic thinking skills in addition to :

• Minimum 4 years of experience within technical expertise area in a humanitarian/ recovery context

• Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts

• Education expertise • Fluency in English, both written and verbal

• Experience with emergency response or Education First Response – desirable

• Experience with integrated programming especially (Child) Protection – desirable

• Experience of accelerated education programmes – desirable

Background The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan is complex, protracted, and worsening. NRC is one of the leading humanitarian response agencies (particularly for Afghans forced to flee), maintaining a presence of 12 offices and over 1,000 staff around the country – notably in the country’s most troubled provinces. NRC Afghanistan operates a diverse grants portfolio, which is set to grow commensurate with the mounting humanitarian needs over the current strategic period of 2022-2025.

Role and responsibilities The purpose of the Education Specialist position is to take responsibility of the technical development of NRC’s Education programme in Afghanistan, including its strategic direction and quality assurance.

The following is a brief description of the role. Generic responsibilities

  • Develop NRC Afghanistan Education strategy, technical guidance and Macro LFAs
  • Contribute to fundraising, develop and revise funding proposal, budgets and donor reports
  • Identify trends technical standards and donor priorities
  • Follow up on compliance with contractual commitments within Education
  • Provide technical direction and project implementation support
  • Ensure that key learnings are extracted from Education implementation, and incorporate them in Education and staff development processes
  • Provide systematic training and build capacity of technical staff
  • Represent NRC in relevant forums/clusters, including with national authorities and donors
  • Contribute to relevant access-advocacy-programme initiatives
  • Lead the strategic development and roll-out of new programming in light of contextual changes;
  • Expand funding and resource mobilization with both humanitarian and development donors
