TITLE: Education Programme Intern

TEAM/PROGRAMME: Education Consortium

LOCATION: Remote working

CONTRACT LENGTH: Fixed Term 6 months at 25% Level of Effort (equivalent of 10 hrs per week) [January – June 2024]

ROLE PURPOSE:

As a multi-donor funded programme, the consortium partners with selected ethnic and monastic education providers to strengthen their capacity to deliver and sustain good quality learning opportunities for children considered to be hard-to-reach in Myanmar. Applying a ‘systems-strengthening’ approach, the programme provides funding, coordination, technical assistance and research across different complementary education systems to promote continuous improvement of education services. The programme works with its partners, established education providers, to place an emphasis on developing the quality and inclusivity of education in Myanmar, including improved learning outcomes; and with a broader range of diverse stakeholders to address key barriers for the achievement of equitable education. In line with its current 2021-25 programme strategy, the overall aim for the programme is that hard-to-reach children access education services that meet their learning and well-being needs.

The role holder will support education team and further professionalise its approach to partner support and technical engagement. Working closely with the members of the Education team, the intern will work to contribute to the development and implementation of education initiatives through partnerships.

The role holder must possess excellent communication skills and have interest and experience of providing education technical support and building technical capacity to implement, measure and continuously strengthen basic education programmes. S/he will also have the opportunity to work as part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team and to further develop his/her own professional expertise.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY :

Education Programme Support

  • Ensure efficient and timely technical support to the Education Director and Department Heads, as requested.
  • Conduct background research on various education topics, including lesson planning, teacher training, and assessment, to inform training and development learning materials, policies and guidelines;
  • Support cross-cutting teams such as GEDSI and CSG with research and capacity building activities;
  • Assist with MTB-MLE research, creation of online learning forum, and review of teaching-learning materials for quality assurance;
  • Edit and proofread reports, presentations, and manuals, as requested;
  • Other tasks/assignments as agreed based on the interests and talents of the post holder.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Student (undergraduate or graduate) of development or international studies or related discipline seeking to gain experience in management aspects of working in the development and/or humanitarian field;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English;
  • Ability to proofread and edit reports, training, presentations, and education materials;
  • Keen interest in research and evaluation of education programmes such as MTB-MLE, Inclusive Education, Social Emotional Learning, and etc.,
  • Excellent people skills, politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and respect;
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team;
  • The capacity and willingness to be flexible and accommodating in light of challenging circumstances;
  • Ability to work under pressure to produce outputs within a per-determined timeframe;
  • Background in education and/or the Myanmar context desired but not required.
