Background
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace, and security. UN Women is mandated by the UN Security Council to lead on UN system-wide coordination on Women, Peace, and Security, and to this end, UN Women has been working with governments, UN partners, and civil society in the Arab region to support the advancement of the WPS agenda across the four WPS pillars of participation, prevention, protection, and relief and recovery.In the Arab States region, the UN Women Regional Office for the Arab States, with the support of donors, contributes to the advancement of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda through the production of timely and evidence-based knowledge products on a range of WPS issues, that inform both UN Women, partner, donor and other stakeholder policy and programming on WPS across the region.Against this background, UN Women is seeking to hire an editor to support the finalization of upcoming knowledge products and to prepare them for publication, as well as to assist in the editing and proofreading of any other relevant documents and communication products produced in the WPS unit.
Objective of the Assignment:Reporting to the Regional Advisor on Women, Peace, and Security, the editor is responsible for editing knowledge products (research papers, analytical reports, etc.) in preparation for their publication and dissemination to a wide range of stakeholders, including the Member States, civil society and other UN agencies. The editor will also provide other editorial services to the unit such as reviewing and proofreading programme and communication documents and products. The editor will be expected to work within the established UN Women editorial guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities
1-Revising and editing knowledge products (in Microsoft Word) to ensure;
Clarity and continuity of the text and focus of the paper; Clarity of structure and core themes of the paper; Internal consistency, both analytical and stylistic.
2-Consistency of terminology;
Consistency between text and tables and figures and integration of text and boxes; Consistency of cross-referencing in the paper; Accuracy of content and removal of all errors related to style and punctuation, spelling, and grammar.
3-Ensuring adherence to the UN Women Editorial Manual and using the correct gender terminology as per the UN Women Gender Term lexicon;
4-Ensuring that the statistical and data used and referenced in the text are consistent with the data in the respective tables, figures, charts, infographics, and maps (if any), as well as with annex tables (where applicable);
5-Checking and organizing all bibliographic references and reorganizing footnotes into endnotes; ensuring referencing follows the same style and format, in line with UN Women������titorial Manual;
6-Proofreading the final publication after the design/layout process, ensuring the final document text is free of typos and stylistic problems/errors.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Master���������s degree (or equivalent) in English, Journalism, Political Science, or relevant field is required; A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience:
More than 5 years of professional experience as an editpolicy papers, research studies, strategy documents, and/or other types of corporate communication is required; Excellent drafting and editing skills across a range of reporting formats and requirements is required; Proven, extensive experience in editing and copywriting for a range of audiences; Knowledge and experience working on WPS related documents is an asset; Experience in applying UN Women���������s Editorial Guide and Gender Term lexicon is an asset; Knowledge of the Arab region is an asset; Experience working with the UN and international organizations is an asset.

Fluency in spoken and written English is req
