Background:

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and non-profit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 35 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Somalia for more than twenty years, where we assist returnees, IDPs and displacement-affected communities in all three regions (Somaliland, Puntland, and Central and Southern Somalia) through protection, service delivery and livelihoods activities to enhance their self-reliance and expand opportunities for a dignified life. DRC provides both humanitarian assistance and longer-term development support to respond to the needs of communities affected by acute crisis as well as those in protracted displacement situations. In the past year, DRC’s strategic focus has shifted towards more durable solutions-oriented programming, linking displacement affected communities to longer-term initiatives to build resilience and recovery.

Overall purpose of the role:

The Economic and Recovery position is based in Baidoa, with regular field visits in various DRC target locations in Somalia. The postholder will help the area program manager and country Economic and Recovery unit in the implementation of Economic and Recovery related activities including mobilizing communities, facilitating beneficiary training on SME, BDS, saving groups, farmers, beneficiary registration and targeting for cash transfers in compliance with DRC, donor policies and technical guidance from country technical team.

Besides, the postholder is expected to promote DRC’s values through various community entry points in the project and preserve stakeholders and target groups moral and enthusiasm for the project work.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate planning, implementation and monitoring of project activities through participative community engagement.
  • Conduct community mobilization and timely information sharing on beneficiary selection and registration
  • Facilitate the implementation of the Economic and Recovery activities in collaboration with the area program manager and Economic and Recovery Officer
  • Facilitate beneficiary capacity building and trainings on various livelihood activities including SME, VSLA, BDS, GAP, NRM, CAAPs, Contingency plan, nutrition, hygiene practices.
  • Support beneficiary’s selection, verification and registration and share information with respective supervisors while ensure equal participation by all segments of the community prioritizing female headed HHS and marginalized groups
  • Conduct beneficiary targeting and registration for Cash based transfers including CWF and UCT
  • Participate development of assessment questioners and conduct rapid assessment survey Beneficiaries capacity building for cash methodology
  • Working closely with the M&E Officer, prepare monthly/weekly plans and report the same
  • Participate in the documenting lessons learnt, best practice and case studies to contribute to sector learning
  • To do any other job assigned by the supervisor

Experience, Education and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience on Economic and recovery interventions including; micro-finance, Business Development service, SME, VSLA, energy, cooperatives and market linkages.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or other related disciplines
  • Adequate knowledge on beneficiary mobile money cash transfers
  • Good communication skills ability to conduct training.
  • Understanding of Gender, Protection and Human rights.
  • Having a knowledge on humanitarian responses and standards
  • Experience with several of the following conventional Economic and Recovery themes: Economic and Recovery and agricultural recovery, cash programming, DRM/DRR, NRM
  • Experience in working with local communities through development of CAAPs, local community resource.
  • mobilization and coordination with local authorities, diaspora and private sector partners.
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication (writing and oral), reporting and presentation skills in English and Somalia.
  • Willingness to travel to all project locations on regular basis.

Languages:

Fluency in written and spoken English. Fluency in local spoken languages.

Conditions

Availability: March 2022

Duty station: Baidoa

Reporting to: Economic and recovery team leader

Duration: 7 Month with possibility of extension based on performance and funding

Contract: This position is graded as Band I-Non-management for qualified national staff and the terms of employment will be in accordance with DRC terms for national staff
