Exciting opportunities at the International Department of the Rainforest Foundation Norway. We are seeking an experienced thematic adviser for the Brazil program.

Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN) is one of Europe’s leading organisations in the work to protect the world’s rainforests and strengthen the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLC), in cooperation with IPLC and environmental organisations. For more than three decades, RFN has built up an engagement in the Amazon in partnership with national civil society organisations.

We are seeking a Drivers of Deforestation adviser to be part of the Brazil program to develop and implement RFN country specific drivers of deforestation approach in alignment with RFN overall strategy.

Location: RFN has it`s headquarter in Oslo but placement in Brazil will be considered. The position will require work across multiple time zones, extensive travel, and collaboration with colleagues in different countries.

Drivers of Deforestation adviser for the Brazil program

The position is responsible for developing, implementing, and delivering processes related to country-specific drivers of deforestation priorities aligned with the organization’s strategic framework.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out complex assessments and analyses and guide and support others in RFN within the area of responsibility
  • Develop policies and contribute to relevant programmes and processes within the area of responsibility
  • Entail frequent external communication to advise, inform, and guide and occasionally to negotiate and influence projects, programs, and relevant stakeholders
  • Occasionally lead departmental projects, task forces and working groups.
  • Development and implement drivers of deforestation focused partnerships/projects in line with the country and partnership frameworks and other RFN policies and procedures

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Advanced knowledge in the area acquired through higher education (normally master) and/or relevant experience*.* Formal education can be compensated with documented and relevant experience.
  • Ability to work independently with limited guidance from a manager.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Portuguese. Knowledge of Norwegian or additional rainforest country languages is an asset.

  • Willing and able to travel in the field and work with partners when needed.
  • Good collaboration skills including the capability to “translate” between positions and across cultural divides to make people pull in the same direction.
  • Excellent writing and synthesising skills. This includes extensive experience with delivering and producing reports on deadlines.
  • Great networking skills with proven experience in building professional relations and networks.
