Civil/Geotechnical Engineer – Toronto, ON

Dovre Canada is pleased to offer the following role: Civil/Geotechnical Engineer in Toronto, ON.

Function

This position will provide engineering and construction related planning, design, analysis, oversight and studies for domestic and international geotechnical and Heavy Civil projects including tunnels and dams.

Key Responsibilities
Support geotechnical engineering efforts and Tunnel Business Line projects. Projects may include geotechnical support on Dams and Hydropower projects.
Perform geotechnical field investigations and site visits during on-going construction work – may periodically require up to 50% field work.
Prepare design materials for basic design assignments. This includes analysis, design calculations, equipment research, sketches, etc., required to prepare documents, specifications drawings or to meet other project requirements.
Prepare design sketches for drafting and incorporation into design criteria. Proficiency with CAD is preferred.
Review manufacturer’s drawings with respect to client design criteria.
Develop preliminary layouts and other plans.
Coordinate design with other personnel working on same project to minimize design conflicts.
Develop and implement data management systems for dam-related investigations, construction materials testing, and safety inspections.
Develop alternate methods, techniques or design concepts as required to resolve unique design problems.

Preferred Qualifications

Requirements
1+ years of experience in geotechnical and/or heavy civil design projects
Bachelor’s degree in engineering
Ability and interest to attain Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the future and/or be in active pursuit of registration
Understanding and appreciation for local and regional geology and geotechnical conditions including but not limited to high ground water, stiff fissured clays, faulting, wells, and sands.
May require up to 25% travel

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 1 year related work experience All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
