WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

We are currently seeking a Preparedness Lead to join the Latin America and Caribbean Division with International Services Department.

Under limited supervision, support technical programs to ensure implementation of American Red Cross’s programs and activities overseas including preparedness portfolio, disaster risk reduction, climate change, and organizational development. Assist with planning, design, and implementation of technical support to address organizational needs in accordance with specified objectives. Provide support, development, and/or leadership guidance to Division staff and volunteers, AmCross NHQ, National Societies Partners, International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), and other key stakeholders.
Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State, and local regulations.

Responsibilities:
1: Perform routine program work supporting the planning, design, and implementation of technical programs.
2: Provide technical input and guidance on community and institutional preparedness projects to national societies, and key partners, including Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia, Mexico, Honduras, and other countries in the Latin America and Caribbean Division (LAC)

3: Conduct field visits to ensure quality assurance and evaluation of institutional preparedness activities

4: Collaborate with country delegations to conceive, design, and develop projects and programs.

5: Support and socialize the new approaches from American Red Cross (AmCross) related to Climate Change, Migration/Displacement, Community Engagement, and other related duties, as assigned

6: Contribute to or lead writing on Disaster and Preparedness/Disasters Risk Reduction related concept notes and proposals.

7: Help identify new trends in Disaster Preparedness/ Disasters Risk Reduction, linking with other Red Cross Red Crescent/IFRC and humanitarian actors.

8: Administer processes within the assigned technical program areas. Analyze operating practices and recommend revisions to improve established procedures.

9: Keep country offices updated on relevant tools, resources, guidance documents, and trends, and support efforts to plan future programs and strategies.

10: Support and facilitate coalition building around broader Movement preparedness initiatives.

11: Support internal and external coordination among relevant parties related to institutional preparedness

12: Build internal capacity for community and institutional preparedness, by providing training and disseminating the latest guidance and resources from AmCross.

13: Supporting AmCross efforts to strategically bridge various institutional preparedness themes.

14: Support the development of preparedness guidance as needed.

15: Help incorporate measurement approaches to capture knowledge transfer; behavior change and impact across projects and programs.

16: Develop and maintain doctrine approach to institutional preparedness working closely with NHQ and Global Disaster Preparedness Center (GDPC) staff and partners.

17: Collaborates with AmCross International Services Departments (ISD), the response team and their Readiness to Respond to priorities, and the Recovery team and their institutional recovery strategies

18: May develop fiscal and program reports for management review.

19: Design and facilitate workshops as needed

20: Prepare presentations, reports, and other program-related materials as needed.

Scope: Individual contributor that works under limited supervision. Apply technical subject matter knowledge; requires the capacity to understand specific needs or requirements to apply skills/knowledge.

Abide by and work in accordance with the Red Cross and Red Crescent principles. Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the line manager

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU THE COMPETITIVE EDGE
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required in International Affairs, Disaster Management/DRR, Humanitarian Assistance, or related fields.

Project Management degree and implementation in humanitarian actions preferred.

Fluently spoken and written English/Spanish is required.

Required Experience:

5- years of experience in disaster risk reduction, resilience, disaster preparedness, and/or disaster response

Experience working and leading in a matrixed management structure
Experience working with local/national partners
Experience and knowledge of Project Management and the project management cycle, including project design, launch, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and learning
Experience delivering community-based programs (required); experience working at a technical level (tools, analysis, evaluations, trainings).
Strong understanding of different methods of monitoring and evaluation including new technology-based approaches.

Required Experience:

Experience working with or for the Red Cross or similar humanitarian NGO

Experience in proposal writing, project design, and other fundraising methodologies

Experience with incorporating Protection, Gender, and Inclusion (PGI) in community-based programs and projects.

Experience integrating community engagement and accountability approaches in community programs and projects.

Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrated experience integrating innovative approaches to solving humanitarian challenges.

Must have excellent interpersonal and diplomacy skills and the ability to work effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.

Must be able to work and problem-solve independently, meet multiple deadlines, and interface with a broad spectrum of Nationals Head Quarters, Divisional, and country staff.

Must be flexible and willing to participate in conference calls outside of regular business hours, work remotely and travel if needed.

Experience working with and within the Red Cross/Red Crescent network is preferred. Must be responsible and self-motivated. Candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills and must demonstrate familiarity with evolving industry standards. Ability to work on a team.

Ability to travel internationally up: 30-50%

The salary range for this position is: $70,000 – $80,000
