DISTRICT PROJECT MANAGER

Save the Children International is inviting applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the position of District Project Manager. The Youth Empowerment and Unsafe Migration Prevention in Malawi project is implemented with support from Save the Children Italy. The overall impact goal of the project is to ensure that “Vulnerable out of school and in school young men and women (15-24 years) including those with disability, from ultra-poor households and marginalized youth become economically independent, access and complete their education, have safe and sustainable livelihoods, and access to SRHR information and services for prevention of unsafe migration and successful transition to adulthood”. The project seeks to transform lives of out of school and in school youths by providing increased child sensitive livelihoods and Social Protection options for successful transition to safe, decent and resilient livelihoods.

The role will require a high level of resilience in a dynamic environment; mature leadership skills; focus combined with flexibility; horizontal cooperation and vertical stakeholder collaboration and networking, high level of initiative and multi-tasking ability; and excellent skills are relevant. The suitable candidate should be able to understand the scope of the role and set priorities within one month of taking up the job; and start delivering on key performance targets within the few months of implementation. The post holder will work closely with the Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, Ministry of Labour, International Organization of Migration, Ntcheu District Assembly, other NGO implementing similar programs and other relevant stakeholders to ensure effective coordination, lesson learning, and knowledge sharing. The Manager will also have budget holding, general finance management and overall field office responsibilities and further to that S/he will be accountable for the achievement of project deliverables and delivery of the joint log-frame within the Humanitarian sector.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

In order to be successful you will bring/have:

  • Master degree level qualification in Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, Development studies and other relevant field.
  • Those with BSc in a related field but with vast experience will be considered.
  • Experience of delivering training to district and community based staffs
  • Performance and quality management of livelihood programs.
  • Experience in working with local NGO partners.
  • Mature and able to function well within flat management structures with extensive consultation and horizontal collaboration
  • Strong leadership skills including ability to influence a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Self-starter
  • Humanitarian context experience
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Good command of English (written and verbal).
  • Commitment to Save the Children values and Child Safeguarding
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles

Desired:

  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Strong understanding of Sexual Reproductive Health, Livelihood/Recovery, economic empowerment and youth initiatives programming.
  • 5 years demonstrable management experience in humanitarian operations, including significant field operations experience emergency programs; experience running development programmes an asset.
  • Result-oriented, able to set priorities and meet deadlines within a dynamic environment
  • Ability to work as part of field team and successfully join up work with partner staff
  • Ability to forge excellent relationships with Adolescent youth.
  • A good understanding of best practice techniques for achieving and sustaining youth’s positive engagement.

Location: Ntcheu

Contract Duration: 5 Months with possibility of extension depending on funding
