DIRECTOR OF STRATEGY AND SPECIAL PROJECTS

CARE USA

CARE is an international NGO with local staff and community partners in more than 90 countries. We create local solutions to poverty and inequality and we seek dignity for everyone every day and during times of crisis. These solutions have a broad range, from clean water to access to education; from microfinance to ensuring that everyone has nutritious food; from agriculture and climate change to disaster response. CARE puts women and girls at the center of everything we do because they have proven to be the best hope for creating lasting change in the world. Our staff live where they work, which makes us effective at understanding the challenges they face. We’ve been doing this for over 70 years, since World War II. It started with the world’s first CARE Package® of food for the post-war hungry in Europe. Our work today is as important as ever, we believe that poverty and inequality are historic injustices that we can end within a generation, for good. If you share our core beliefs: poverty is an injustice; poverty is solvable; and together, we have the power to end it, join us, and fight with CARE.

CARE is seeking for Director of Strategy and Special Projects. CARE USA’s four-year strategy prioritizes three “impact drivers”: gender equal, locally led, globally scaled to accelerate and deepen our impact. Together, these impact drivers will enable us to accelerate and deepen our impact, putting us on a path to meet our ambitious 2030 impact goals, while also leading the sector in doing the critical work of decolonization, shifting power, and transforming the organization. At the heart of our strategy is transformation, change, and embracing new ways of working.

To that end, the Director will support CEO, Strategy and confederation priorities by starting up and project-managing a range of strategic projects/assignments. This will require creative problem-solving and partnering with top leaders and teams to transform ideas into compelling strategies, pilots, projects, and assignments. A creative problem solver and strong project manager with advanced analytics and executive presence. Comfortable with ambiguity and able to translate complex ideas into compelling storylines. Comfortable with blue sky thinking with bias towards action. A self starter and curious about re-imagining how the org and sector could be more effective.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage strategic projects and special assignments
  • Creative problem and strategic thought leadership
  • Change leadership and storylining

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (MBA, MA in International Development or equivalent), or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 6-8 years’ combined experience in strategy, leading/managing strategic initiatives, and change management.
  • At least 5 years experience in project management especially for organizational wide and strategic/innovative/disruptive initiatives with a creative and adaptive mindset.
  • Executive presence with a track record in working with top executives. Exceptional presentation skills.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite with strong analystics background; PowerPoint story building; advanced written communications, and cross cultural communication.
