Alleyn’s are a leading HMC co-educational school for children aged 4 -18, nestled in the creative heart of south London with a cherished history dating back to their founding by Edward Alleyn in 1619.

Job Description

Alleyn’s School is seeking a driven, service orientated Director of Site Operations to help transform the day-to-day operations to meet the growing needs of this 7 days a week site. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be responsible for a wide portfolio including all estate maintenance, grounds, gardens, catering, cleaning and security services.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management

  • Oversee the maintenance, security and cleanliness of all school buildings, grounds, and facilities.
  • Oversee the catering services.
  • Troubleshoot operational problems and ensure prompt solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, operational staff and senior leaders through active attendance, chairing (where required) and input to school committees and development groups.

People Management & Development

  • Proactively manage the performance and development of operational teams, preparing relevant and meaningful training and induction programmes (100 approximately in wider team, 6 direct reports).

Procurement, Budget & Cost Management

  • Develop and manage the site operations budget in conjunction with the Head of Finance.
  • Ensure there is a rigorous process of cost management within operational departments.
  • Prepare and manage procurement tenders with the Commercial Project Lead to ensure continued value for money across all spending categories.

Estate Development

  • Develop and implement a proactive maintenance schedule to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of infrastructure.
  • Conduct a full and ongoing condition survey of the estate to develop a long-term investment programme of improvements.
  • Prepare and develop business cases for consideration by appropriate school committees for annual capital expenditure and special capital projects.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations, regularly reviewing and implementing necessary measures as regulations change or situations evolve.
  • Provide leadership in emergency preparedness and response procedures including acting as the School’s Fire Officer.
  • Ensure departmental risk assessments are completed and reviewed accordingly.

Project Management

  • Oversee all relevant projects including but not limited to estate capital projects, annual improvement works and cost reviews.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience within facilities and/or estates management (Essential).
  • Project Management qualification e.g. Prince2. (Desirable)
  • Health & Safety related qualification e.g. NEBOSH (Desirable)

Person Specification

  • Proven experience in facilities and/or catering management.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and compliance.
  • Excellent project management and budgeting skills.
  • Leadership experience, with the ability to inspire and manage a diverse team.
  • Team player and good communication skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of management information systems (e.g. helpdesks).
  • Computer literate across Microsoft 365 suite.
  • Ability to make persuasive arguments and present to senior managers.
  • Proactive working attitude.
  • Keen willingness for future development.
  • Strong work ethic with keen eye on detail.
  • A commitment to environmental sustainability.

What’s on Offer

Candidates can expect a salary of (£70-£85K) depending on experience plus great benefits.

This role is based at Alleyn’s School in Dulwich full time.
