Director of Impact and Engagement

Elrha is a global charity that finds solutions to complex humanitarian problems through research and innovation. We have an exciting opportunity for an innovative, resourceful and dynamic individual to join us as our new Director of Impact and Engagement. This is a new role for Elrha that will contribute to leading us into our next stage of growth.​

This year we are embarking on the development of an ambitious new strategy for Elrha, and we are looking for an exceptional leader to join our team and help shape our next strategic period.​

The role has four areas of responsibility to tailor and accelerate our journey to impact:​

  • Drive the strategic direction of Elrha’s work to maximise impact and optimise resources.

  • Develop Elrha’s influence within the global humanitarian system to expand our impact.

  • Strengthen Elrha’s external recognition within the global humanitarian system. ​

  • Inspire, lead and develop our high-performing teams.

You will be providing strategic leadership across our two programmes that deliver results for people affected by crises: Research for Health in Humanitarian Crises (R2HC), which aims to improve health outcomes by strengthening the evidence base for public health interventions; and the Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF), which improves outcomes by identifying, nurturing and sharing more effective, innovative and scalable solutions. The position also leads our highly strategic Policy Engagement and Communications team, and will represent Elrha at a senior level, managing high-level strategic and donor relationships. You will be central to ensuring our staff remain engaged with our mission and inspired to work together to achieve our goals.

You will need to demonstrate:

  • Experience of working in a highly strategic leadership role with responsibility for optimising impact, ideally within the humanitarian or international development sectors.

  • A successful track record of building reputation and influencing a policy agenda to create positive change.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate a vision to inspire others and develop strong and positive relationships with external stakeholders.

Remote Working

Elrha employees are currently working remotely within the UK in line with UK Government guidance. In Spring 2022 we will transition to flexible and hybrid ways of working (i.e., a mixture of remote/home and office-based working) as social distancing restrictions ease. We are happy to discuss flexible working options at interview.

Salaries and benefits

Jobs are positioned within the salary structure on the basis of evaluation. New employees would normally be appointed at the bottom of the grade; however, the appointed salary may also take into account the relevant experience a candidate brings to a role. Elrha is committed to paying staff in a fair and equitable way and will benchmark all salary offers in line with the pay of existing staff.

Elrha also has a comprehensive benefits package including 25 days holiday entitlement which increases year on year, 5% employer pension contribution (3% employee contribution) and life cover.

Pre-employment Checks

We have a responsibility to ensure that all our employees have the right to work in the UK before and during their employment. Proof of right to work will not be undertaken at the initial stage but all necessary checks to confirm the eligibility to work in the UK will take place prior to employment.
