The Director of the Global Research Team (GRT) provides leadership to our global research projects while also supporting our global offices through mentorship and technical assistance. This role is a mixture of people and project management, alongside research design and implementation. The main responsibilities of the Director are to lead and mentor the members of the GRT, to manage the workflow of the GRT, to administer the GRT as a business unit, and participate in the implementation of global projects and other billable work as necessary, but this will ideally occupy no more than 75% of the director’s time. The Director of the GRT will also participate in business development through the creation of methodologies and taking client calls during contract negotiation and signing.

More specifically, the responsibilities for this position as follows:

Lead and Mentor GRT Members:

  • Communicate regularly with all GRT members about their current workload and prospective workload, and work-related needs.
  • Match GRT members with incoming work and requests for technical assistance in such a way as to ensure timely completion of work, evenly distributed workload, and optimal allocation of work given the unique skillsets and strengths of each team-member.
  • Track the skills, professional goals, and learning needs of all GRT members. Ensure that all GRT members are presented with ample opportunities to continue to grow their skills, address learning needs, and achieve their goals.
  • Ensure GRT team members are completing their administrative tasks such as timesheet completion on time.
  • Empower GRT members to work independently and self-delegate, while always ensuring the quality of their work and ensuring that their priorities are in line with the best interests of the company as a whole.

Project Manage Research and Billable Work:

  • Serve as the main project manager for all GRT projects
  • Oversee all client communications and LoE management for GRT projects
  • Ensure all deliverables going to clients from GRT are of high quality
  • As needed, provide remote and in-person technical support to Forcier’s field offices in order to ensure that staff have adequate skills and support to produce high quality, timely research that meets our clients’ needs.
  • Deliver invoices to client on-time as outlined in the contract
  • Work with the Director of Operations to oversee the fieldwork budget of GRT projects

Business Development:

  • Design methodologies for research projects across the company

Contribute to Country Office Research Departments:

  • Support Research Managers with technical requests on sample design, questionnaire design, survey programming, quality assurance, data cleaning, and statistical analysis.
  • Have bi-weekly check-ins with Research Managers to ensure that they feel supported in their positions.

Requirements

M.A. degree and at least 3 years of experience, or PhD and at least 1 year of experience. Appropriate graduate level education will be in political science, anthropology, international development, statistics, public health, or a related field. Irrespective of degree field, graduate level training in research methods and statistics is required.

Required Skills

  • Graduate-level coursework in econometrics and inferential statistics, ideally including applied regression analysis, survey data analysis, data visualization, and power analysis
  • Advanced knowledge of STATA required
  • Demonstrated ability to clean and interpret primary data, generating actionableinsights
  • Experience in communicating with clients, managing teams, and human resources to ensure successful completion of projects and objectives
  • Experience managing teams of people remotely or in-person
  • Experience working remotely considered an asset
  • Knowledge of French or Portuguese is considered an asset​
