Director of Communications Job Summary:

Responsible for leadership of all communications and related staff while managing the communication annual business delivery plans, production calendars, public relations, social media, website administration and occasional assistance with direct mail marketing. This role splits its time between the Agency and the Foundation under the general supervision of the CDO/VP of Development and Communication.

Sample Responsibilities:

  • Supervise communication staff
  • Responsibility for CFI brand consistency in the community and all communications
  • Assist with fund raising events
  • Manage communications and public relations efforts
  • Assist the CEO and CDO/VP of Development and Communications with board and committee special meeting presentations
  • Prepare the monthly e-newsletter from the Foundation to all staff and both boards
  • Work with the CDO/VP of Deveopment and Communications on the identification and implementation of special public relations campaigns
  • Track public speaking engagements

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations or related field and/or 5-7 years of progressive experience that demonstrates the ability to supervise staff and perform communications functions at an advanced level.

Should have or be willing to quickly gain a thorough knowledge of CFI and its programs; ability to understand the total agency philosophy and needs; ability to interpret such information to the general public verbally, with imagery and in writing; understanding of the field of human services; good listening skills; great attention to detail, ability to work under pressure and on tight deadlines; creative graphic design skills, ability to deal positively with a variety of people in a professional environment; ability to supervise; advanced project improvement and management skills. Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel within the state of Iowa. Must be comfortable and willing to speak publicly on behalf of both organizations as needed.
