TITLE: Director, Donor Compliance & Non-profit Risk Management

SUPERVISOR: Global Director, Growth

LOCATION: Global remote, home-based (must be able to work core hours 13:00 -16:00 UTC)

Humentum is a global nonprofit organization that strengthens humanitarian and development organizations and advocates for data-driven policies and standards to benefit the entire sector. We work directly with organizations by building community through our online networking platform and events; advancing individual and organizational capability through online training and content; and providing solutions to organization-wide problems through our consultancy service.

Position Description

This role will lead the design and development of Humentum’s product offer globally in the technical area of risk and compliance, including the investigation and prevention of fraud and other forms of misconduct. This will involve playing an instrumental role in winning work with clients, designing solutions and overseeing the quality of delivery of all risk and compliance assignments.

This technical role will also play a leading role across Humentum in ensuring our offer builds on the knowledge generated from convening our community and our influencing work with major donors, especially the US government.

The Technical Director, Risk & Compliance will work as part of the Growth Division. They will also work in close collaboration with the Technical Director, Government Affairs and Advocacy on emerging compliance policy issues. The post will also work closely with the Growth team to help convert leads, and the Client Delivery Team to oversee the quality of assignments.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of Humentum’s product offer globally in the technical area of risk and compliance (product development)

  • Lead the design and development of Humentum’s learning and consultancy offer in the technical area of risk and compliance, in ways that contributes to Humentum’s overall strategy.
  • In collaboration with Humentum’s business pillar leads (Community, Learning, Consultancy, Policy), identify, analyze, and develop ways to address the priority operational policies, standards, issues, and trends related to risk and compliance management within the development and humanitarian sectors.
  • Collaborate closely with Humentum business pillars to support the creation and tailoring of products and services that address the risk and compliance needs of NGOs, including incorporation of ethics and code of conduct approaches within the donor relationship.

Work with clients, propose solutions and oversee the quality of Humentum’s risk and compliance assignments (delivery & quality assurance)

  • Work in close coordination with the Growth team to develop and grow Humentum’s pipeline of client work for consultancy and learning solutions related to risk and compliance, in line with agreed targets.
  • Work with the Client Relations Team and other team members to understand client needs, propose appropriate solutions and assure the technical quality of proposals to clients.
  • Work with the Client Delivery Team to assure the technical quality of assignments, including peer review of outputs provided to the client.
  • Support the identification, recruitment, and retention of Humentum’s pool of risk and compliance associates.
  • Collaborate with the Client Delivery team to continuously improve the design and delivery of Humentum’s services and products and capture client input for use in innovation and marketing.
  • Serve as Project Director and senior relationship manager on large, longer-term funded projects.

Be a leader in Humentum thought leadership for your technical area (thought leadership)

  • Build relationships with influential NGOs and related networks to strengthen Humentum’s reputation as a provider of risk and compliance learning and consultancy in the sector.
  • Regularly contribute to thought leadership on risk and compliance in writing and by presenting at conferences and events.
  • Advise and provide regular input to the Humentum senior leadership on how the risk-related and compliance services contribute to Humentum’s vision, mission, and strategy.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts through networking, relationship building and proposal development to advance key initiatives in your technical area.

Requirements

Qualifications and experience

  • Professional qualifications in law, risk management, compliance, fraud investigation or other relevant disciplines.
  • Extensive senior management experience as a professional with responsibility for risk and compliance in humanitarian or development organizations.
  • Extensive working knowledge of USAID and other major international donors’ compliance requirements.
  • Experience in the development and application of enterprise risk management (ERM) approaches and tools.
  • Proven experience in providing consulting advice and support.
  • Proven experience in designing policies, tools and templates that have been used effectively by other team members in compliance and risk management.
  • History of written thought leadership on the topic of compliance and risk management in the development and humanitarian sector.
  • Experience with leading global teams.

Job Related Information

This position is a remote, home-based position that works as part of a wider remote, global team. You will need to work independently and as well as part of the team to achieve team-based targets. You must possess both the ability and environment to work virtually: reliable connection to high-speed internet, appropriate environment for leading and participating in virtual meetings with enabled video.

Total Rewards

Compensation for this role is as set out in Humentum’s Total Rewards policy. The role is grade C. As this is a strategically critical position the starting salary will be set at step 5 of the grade, paid either on the US scale for US-based staff or global scale for all other locations. If the role is part-time, the salary will be pro-rated accordingly.
