Job Overview: As an integral member of the Resettlement, Asylum, and Integration (RAI) programs department at IRC Headquarters in New York, the Development Director is the headquarters focal point for non-grant fundraising and external relations activities conducted by IRC’s U.S. regional offices. The Development Director is a chief advocate for the interests of RAI programs department internally, including representation for key organizational initiatives.

Key responsibilities include establishing alignment across RAI and ER teams, internal guidelines and best practices for RAI offices on fundraising; ensuring alignment of fundraising priorities and processes with IRC’s External Relations department; onboarding and capacity building for RAI development staff; lead key national fundraising; and represent RAI programs department across the organization on fundraising initiatives. The Development Director works closely with senior staff and serves as a liaison with the External Relations, Finance, Legal departments and local resource development staff. The Development Director oversees a small team of officers who lead and provide overall coordination on a select portfolio of national grants, volunteer operations and resource generation support functions within RAI.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Advance the interests of the RAI programs internally and facilitate coordination with External Relations (ER) on key initiatives

  • Provide strategic direction in coordination with External Relations (ER) on national initiatives with emphasis on scaling a new integrated working model between RAI and Headquarters’ ER
  • Advance RAI fundraising priorities across ER teams
  • Provide guidance and input to ER on new initiatives that impact RAI programs and/or private fundraising objectives.
  • Integrate initiatives from Policy & Advocacy, Communications, Marketing & Mobilization, Philanthropy and Resettlement, Asylum, and Integration programs department
  • Serve as subject matter expert for RAI on organization-wide fundraising processes, platforms and capabilities.
  • Serve as RAI Business Owner for the CRM & Marketing Technology Steering Committee
  • Liaise with RAI offices to handle the flow of communication between the IRC’s program areas and the IPP team, ensuring efficient alignment of donor market opportunities with program development opportunities and delivery strengths.
  • Support the RAI-Europe team to strengthen private fundraising in partnership with the Program Office, RAI-Europe and ER, including piloting new private fundraising initiatives

Lead development and supporter engagement team

  • Lead, mentor, and manage the Development and Supporter Engagement team within RAI Resource Acquisition and Management team.
  • Inspire, empower, and challenge the team through active mentorship, fostering an inclusive environment that supports new insights and innovative ways of developing and managing secured resources.
  • Foster a responsive, supportive team dynamic in service to IRC’s network of RAI offices on volunteer and development operations to improve office outcomes on fundraising and supporter engagement.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration among the RAM mini team and within External Relations to further IRC’s mission; support the team in maintaining efficient cross-functional processes.
  • Ensure proper stewardship of a portfolio of select national corporate partnerships, including but not limited to Airbnb, Latter-Day Saints Charities.
  • Work with the Resource Acquisition Team to establish fundraising strategies, goals and benchmarks for the team; track and analyze fundraising data.
  • Develop and team lead integrated fundraising/outreach campaigns for individual RAI donors, such as the year-end appeal.
  • Manage internal guidelines for RAI development staff on events, marketing, cause marketing relationships and related fundraising.
  • Promote strategies that improve holistic approaches to volunteer operations and fundraising.
  • This position supervises: A team of five staff members, including four direct reports; MiP supervision of Senior RAI Support Manager.

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Relevant professional experience in human services field required; minimum of 9 years’ experience strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, Outlook; and experience using and administering content management systems such as Drupal and Acoustic, and client relationship management tools such Salesforce.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time and meet deadlines, and proven ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently in a diverse, fast-paced environment.

Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • Occasional domestic (non-local) travel required; up to 10%.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
