Job Summary:

The Constituent Leadership & Chapter Development Director manages and advances the strategic and divisional objectives of Mission and Mobilization (M2) to build to scale a movement of millions in the Unites States and thereby to increase the Church’s influence in achieving the mission of Catholic Relief Services (CRS). The Director’s strategic leadership will advance CRS’ reputation and impact through advocacy and fundraising throughout th e United States and help address global poverty and injustice by overseeing the development and optimization of volunteer and partner leadership development across key constituencies. The Director will lead the team responsible for motivating, inspiring, rewarding, recognizing, training, and developing our network of campaign supporters, chapters, clubs and cadre of most highly engaged partners and leaders.

Roles and Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct the establishment of a comprehensive partner and volunteer leadership development framework aligned to strategy and appropriate for all CRS main constituencies, including Church leaders, university faculty/staff, high school faculty/staff, Hispanic/Latino constituencies and other volunteers and people of goodwill.
  • Lead and direct the implementation of the training and informational and experiential learning program across all CRS constituencies and engagement levels, including Hispanic/Latino, high school, university, other Catholic institutions as well as people of goodwill.
  • Champion the vision, mission and strategy of Mission and Mobilization. Lead the design of medium and long-term goals within the Constituent Leadership & Chapter Development Team in adherence to M2 strategic objectives, goals, KPIs and other operational metrics. Ensure that the team’s objectives are in alignment with the M2 strategy.
  • Critical member of the department’s leadership team. Plays an active role to build trust within and between the team and its members, engages in vigorous debates about ideas as part of the team, commits to decisions and plans of action of them team, holds members of the leadership team accountable for delivering against those plans, and focuses on delivery on the achievement of collective results.
  • Ensure that all activities meet and exceed divisional expectations and are implemented for maximum impact and reach. Ensure that M2 quality standards are adhered to per M2-specific MEAL processes. Promote and model a commitment to the role and purpose of the departmental Cross-Functional Teams (CFTs).
  • Effectively manage direct reports and supervise. Manage team dynamics and staff well-being. Provide coaching and mentoring for staff. Strategically tailor individual development plans and complete performance assessments. Oversee overall staffing plans for the unit and the recruitment process of vacant positions when applicable.
  • Ensure team managers understand, adhere to, and comply with applicable CRS staff policies.
  • Promote, uphold, and model a commitment to the efficient use of agency resources. Oversee departmental expenditures related to this team’s activities and participate in departmental annual budgeting and annual planning processes.
  • Create and maintain proper conditions for learning. Establish a safe environment for sharing of ideas, solutions, and difficulties and the capacity to detect, analyze and respond quickly to deficiencies. Promote accountability, learning and knowledge management among the team, application of M2-specific MEAL policies, processes, and operational norms, as well as cross-department learning and cross-divisional learning within the CFTs.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree in Non-Profit Management or equivalent preferred.
  • 10 years senior management experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Languages English.

Travel – Must be willing and able to travel up to 15% within the U.S. On occasion internationally.

  • Excellent strategic, analytical, systems thinking, and problem-solving skills, with capacity to see the big picture and ability to make sound judgment and decisions.
  • Excellent relationship management abilities. Ability to relate to people at all levels. Strategic in how you approach each relationship.
  • Team leadership abilities with diverse/multi-disciplinary teams. Coaching/mentoring skills.
  • Strong communications and presentation skills; able to develop tailored and persuasive messaging for varied audiences.
  • Proactive, resourceful, solutions-oriented and results-oriented.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience successfully activating volunteers to support advocacy and legislative issue-based campaigns and non-profit fundraising, and to provide their time, talent, and treasure in increasingly complex, and more impactful ways.
  • Experience with volunteer development, leadership development theory, adult learning, instructional design or leadership development training.
  • Staff management experience and abilities that are conducive to a learning environment. Experience coaching and mentoring staff at all levels.
  • Ability to represent the agency at high levels.
  • Experience in MS Office package (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio), Web Conferencing Applications, Salesforce, and other relevant information and budget management systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Two (2) Advisor positions and one (1) Coordinator II positions

Key Working Relationships:

Internal: All units within the department, all M2 divisions, particularly S & O and Church Engagement. Marketing & Communications and Charitable Giving as it relates to leadership development and training.

External: Partners, constituents, and other supporters across all levels of engagement and audience segments.
