Job Summary:

The Constituent & Chapter Engagement Director will advance the strategic and divisional objectives of Mission and Mobilization (M2) to build to scale a movement of millions in the Unites States and thereby helping to achieve the mission of Catholic Relief Services (CRS). The Director’s strategic leadership will help address global poverty and injustice by optimizing highly relational prospecting and acquisition of new partners and volunteer le aders across all of our main constituent audiences to support our issue-based campaigns, to identify new hosts for chapter-and-club building, to support these partner and leader relationships for advocacy and fundraising outcomes, to maintain active and healthy CRS chapters and clubs, and to support our most highly engaged volunteers and leaders. This engaged network will advocate for more just, equitable, and generous US foreign policy and raise funds for the Mission of CRS.

Roles and Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the management of strategic relationships with existing CRS institutional partners and volunteer leaders across key constituencies that ensure strong and growing representation, support, engagement, and action in our campaigns for advocacy and fundraising, our chapter and club network and the nurturing of super volunteers and partners.
  • Lead and direct the pursuit of strategic growth opportunities as it relates to identifying and acquiring new volunteer leaders, chapter and club hosts, and volunteer champions from within CRS existing partner and volunteer networks as well as new networks and with people of goodwill.
  • Champion the vision, mission and strategy of Mission and Mobilization. Lead the design of medium and long-term goals within the Constituent & Chapter Engagement Team in adherence to M2 strategic objectives, goals, KPIs and other operational metrics. Ensure the team’s managers coordinate their teams’ objectives in alignment with the M2 strategy.
  • Critical member of the department’s leadership team. Play an active role to build trust within and between the team and its members, engage in vigorous debates about ideas as part of the team, commit to decisions and plans of action of the team, hold members of the leadership team accountable for delivering against those plans, and focus on delivery on the achievement of collective results.
  • Ensure that all activities meet and exceed divisional expectations and are implemented for maximum impact and reach.
  • Effectively manage direct reports. Manage team dynamics and staff well-being. Provide coaching and mentoring. Strategically tailor individual development plans and complete performance assessments. Oversee overall staffing plans for the department and the recruitment process of new staff when applicable.
  • Ensure staff understand, adhere to, and comply with applicable CRS staff policies.
  • Promote, uphold, and model a commitment to the efficient use of agency resources. Oversee departmental expenditures related to this team’s activities and participate in departmental annual budgeting and annual planning processes.
  • Create and maintain proper conditions for learning. Establish a safe environment for sharing of ideas, solutions, and difficulties and the capacity to detect, analyze and respond quickly to deficiencies. Promote accountability, learning and knowledge management among the team, application of M2 MEAL policies, processes, and operational norms, as well as cross-department learning and cross-divisional learning through Cross Functional Teams (CFTs).

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree in Non-Profit Management or equivalent preferred.
  • 10 years senior management experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Languages English. Bilingual English/Spanish language skills preferred

Travel – Must be willing and able to travel up to 15% within the U.S. On occasion internationally.

  • Excellent strategic, analytical, systems thinking, and problem-solving skills, with capacity to see the big picture and ability to make sound judgment and decisions.
  • Excellent relationship management abilities. Ability to relate to people at all levels internally and externally. Strategic in how you approach each relationship.
  • Team leadership abilities with diverse/multi-disciplinary teams. Coaching/mentoring skills.
  • Strong communications and presentation skills; able to develop and deliver tailored and persuasive messaging for varied audiences.
  • Proactive, resourceful, solutions-oriented and results-oriented.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bicultural English/Spanish competencies
  • Demonstrated experience successfully activating people to join and take action in issue-based campaigns through advocacy and fundraising, and to provide their time, talent and treasure in increasing their actions in more complex, and more impactful ways.
  • Experience engaging partners and strengthening partnerships, including Catholic Church partners.
  • Staff management experience and abilities that are conducive to a learning environment. Experience coaching and mentoring staff at all levels.
  • Ability to represent the agency at high levels.
  • Experience in MS Office package (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio), Web Conferencing Applications, Salesforce, and other relevant information and budget management systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities: four (4) Managers and two (2) Coordinator II positions

Key Working Relationships:

Internal: All departments within the division, M2 divisions, particularly S&O and Church Engagement, Charitable Giving as it relates to donor relationships.

External: Church partners particularly dioceses, relevant ministry offices, National Hispanic Ministry organizations, Lay Apostolic Movements, parish leaders, university and high school faculty, staff and leadership, other partners and leaders of good will.
