The Gender Justice team leads the advancement of gender equality globally, guided by CARE’s Global VISION 2030 and related CARE USA Strategies. The GJ team provides thematic leadership and gender integration across the wider organization. More specifically, the GJ team will lead and influence the sector on the importance of centering gender in all that is done. This will be accomplished by amplifying evidence and learning on key approaches to gender equality, deepening how we center these in our teams, programs and partnerships, and anticipating the gender trends over the next 2 decades and beyond so we can position CARE to respond.

The Director Behavior and Social Change will be responsible for the scaling of what’s working and relevant in relation to behavior and social change, contributing to wider efforts to amplify CARE’s gender transformative programming whilst informing the deepen and anticipatory strategic pillars. The Director will be supported by a behavior and social change team and will lead activities that focus on amplifying and expanding CARE’s behavior and social change work. The postholder will contribute to the wider GJ team strategy and direction with a focus on scaling of behavior and social change work and will ensure technical excellence through the provision of technical guidance and thought leadership on behavior and social change programming. The Director will develop and strengthen working relationships with other CARE teams, targeted Country offices and the wider Federation (CI) in an effort to scale CARE’s behavior and social change work for greater impact and influence. This includes exploring new areas of focus and initiating, leading and contributing to new cutting edge and bold programming initiatives. The postholder will represent CARE in external events, participate in networking and actively market CARE’s behavior and social change work with the strategic intent of developing new partnerships to scale CARE’s work and will work closely with the GJ team and the Director Program Design and Resource Mobilization Director to identify and position CARE for new funding opportunities. This includes working with the GJ technical Directors, the CARE USA technical teams and the CI impact teams to feed into evidence -based documentation and dissemination of learning for wider impact and advocacy plans for greater influence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Management and supervision for direct reports.

· Technical leadership and resource mobilization.

· Strategic working relationships within the GJ team and ensure improved collaboration and coordination of efforts with key teams and members across the organization (includes CARE USA and CI).

· Evidence based learning to inform strategic planning across 3 pillars (amplify, anticipate and deepen).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of gender related development work
  • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of related experience (combination of global experience with extensive regional experience.
  • Team management/ leadership experience and knowledge of good practice of designing and running teams with a complex multi country, multi -disciplinary agenda.
  • Experience and knowledge of designing and running gender related programs
  • Technical experience in a gender field.
  • Demonstrated competence in HR processes and practice.
  • Experience of driving culture and behavior change.
  • Model strong stakeholder management and relationship management skills.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, presentation and communication skills.
  • Clear communicator, fair, consistent approach.
