The Pacific Community (SPC) is the principal scientific and technical organisation in the Pacific region, supporting development since 1947. We are known for our knowledge and innovation in such areas as fisheries science, public health surveillance, geoscience, and conservation of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture.

The Communications Division is a central function under the Office of the Director-General, which is responsible for driving a strategic, integrated and contemporary approaches to communications and storytelling that drives impact across our organisation and externally. The team provides central coordination, development of effective systems and processes, coordination of strategic and Pacific-led storytelling approaches, policies, procedures and impact-based communication actions. A central aim of this role will be to ensure culturally sensitive storytelling including capturing of Pacific-led and owned stories of impact and preservation of cultural storytelling in line with Pacific cultures and practices.

The role – Digital Media Reporter will be the key reporting role providing engaging, human-interest stories, visual content, social media content and short video content for social media and Pacific Way across our Blue Pacific region. This role is designed for someone who is curious, has an appetite for story telling in and across Pacific communities, understands how users are best engaging with content in the region and is able to provide multi-platform style reporting in line with consistent rules, standards, grammar and spelling.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Produce, curate, edit video, written and visual content within SPC branding guidelines for social media, web and television.
  • Coordinate with Divisions to support storytelling in timely and responsive manners.
  • Reporting and evaluation.
  • Support One SPC communications actions.

Key selection criteria

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant communications area or in story production, media or digital strategy.

Technical expertise

  • At least 7 years of professional experience in the media, digital storytelling or communications fields, with a strong focus on online/social media communications.

Language skills

  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).

Interpersonal skills and cultural awareness

  • Ability to work in a multicultural, inclusive and equitable environment.

Salary, terms and conditions

Contract DurationUntil 31 March 2026 – subject to renewal depending on funding and performance.

Remuneration – The Digital Media Reporter is a band 7 position in SPC’s 2024 salary scale, with a commencing taxable salary range of FJD 2,287-2,859 per month, plus local staff benefits. An offer of appointment for an initial contract will normally be made in the lower half of this range, with due consideration given to experience and qualifications. Progression within the salary scale will be based on annual performance reviews.
