ADVERTISEMENT: Digital Education Coordinator (Nairobi)

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Digital Education Coordinator will plan, guide and support implementation of the ‘Digital Education For Disadvantaged ECD and Primary School Children In Kenya’ project in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Mombasa Counties. Reports to: Programme Manager – Nairobi Programmes

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Programme Quality

  • The role holder will be expected to;
  • Plan and supervise implementation of project activities together with Save the Children and EIDU programmes team at national, county and sub-county levels in Kisumu, Nairobi and Mombasa.
  • Ensure quality implementation of Save the Children Ed-tech projects in country, providing support to Project officers in project management and project cycle management
  • Drive digital innovation and provide technical expertise in EdTech across Save the Children education programme to derive learning and inform the MOE and KICD digital agenda
  • Build relationships with schools, in order to help them get the most out of the program. The holder of the position will be expected to spend most of their time speaking with teachers and learners to offer advice and training liaising with the implementing partner EIDU on how to use ed-tech and implement it well in school.
  • Provide digital literacy and build capacity of teachers and staff in using technology to learn and spend time with the learners and teachers.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders providing Ed-Tech within the counties of operation and externally for learning and providing Ed-Tech solutions in ECD
  • Provide technical support in implementation of the school and classroom digital components of the project ensuring that these align with national and global best practices.
  • Together with EIDU programme teams and national, county and sub-county education officers, ensure that the group deliberative process is taking place and actions are documented and implemented
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and government officials working in the Ministry of Education (MOE) on digital learning to support the successful implementation of the project initiatives and share learnings.
  • Organize the development, pre-testing and production of culturally relevant child protection, child safeguarding and Child participation communication materials to ensure effective and efficient program delivery, including facilitating behaviour change, where necessary.
  • Develop technical competence in the areas of recruiting schools, training teachers and accompanying schools and government actors in the best possible integration of digital content into everyday analogue teaching.
  • Participates and oversee capacity-building activities of project’s key stakeholders including the education officers, project schools, teachers, trainers and beneficiaries and well as implementing partner.

Strategic Programming, Representation and Fund raising

  • Be fully aware of national policies, strategies, other initiatives, developments by government and key stakeholders relating to Ed-tech for early childhood development and basic education.
  • Ensure that the “Digital Education For Disadvantaged ECD and Primary School Children In Kenya” project remains relevant to the external environment
  • Participate in the relevant ECD and basic education national level coordination meetings, early childhood development Working Groups and other national level forums (e.g Nurturing care, ECD Network etc).
  • Support in fundraising for the Country Office by developing proposals for ECD and basic education programming in line with the country strategic objectives and Government of Kenya policies and legal frameworks.

Programme, Partnership and award management

  • Provide overall leadership, and oversee the implementation of the project.
  • Develop and maintain detailed implementation plan and annual and quarterly work plans for the education projects in collaboration with the implementing partner.
  • Ensure the timely and efficient implementation of the project as described in the Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP).
  • In Collaboration with implementing partner prepare annual and quarterly work plans and ensure that program activities are implemented as planned and within the approved budget.
  • Monitor monthly expenditure and track project budgets to ensure that spending on the program is in line with the approved budgets.
  • Submission of donor narrative reports and review financial reports generated by finance.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL)

  • Ensure project performance tracked and quality standards adhered to.
  • Coordinate regular project monitoring and supervision in liaison with the SCHMTs to ensure quality project implementation according to agreed standards.
  • Take lead in preparation and documentation of best practices, lessons learnt including case studies
  • Ensure the compilation of quality and timely reporting for the project both routine project reports and donor reports
  • Ensure learning from the project are documented and shared with Save the Children, national, county and sub-county education officials, programme staff, and other SCI partners

Coordination and Representation

  • Develop dynamic relationships with the Ministry of Education and other relevant institutions at National level; support program staff to do the same at County and sub-county levels.
  • Liaise with key non-governmental organizations (NGOs), UN-agencies for shared learning on ed-tech, joint implementation and leveraging on existing similar platforms
  • Develop the linkages with Nairobi, Kisumu and Mombasa county governments and sub county level officials and have working agreements in place to implement our ed-tech programs.
  • Identify potential partners to work together and scale up identified initiatives on ed-tech
  • Liaise and build strong partnerships and teamwork with existing Save the Children Ed-tech programmes
  • Position Save the Children by representation in such networks and actively contributing and sharing about our programs.

Staff directly reporting to this Post: None.

Budget responsibility: Yes – as per program size and delegation scheme.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Degree in Education, ECD, a Master’s Degree in education or equivalent is an added advantage
  • Experience working with the Ministy of Education, county governments and influencing policy work is considered a very strong asset.
  • Experience in implementing child protection programmes and working with local partners is an asset.
  • At least five (7) years relevant experience implementing education technology in ECD and early grades of learning, coordination and sector integration.
  • Ability to make links between early childhood development, basic education and gains in education, child protection, child safeguarding, education technology
  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili (both spoken and written) and demonstrable competence in proposal and report writing
  • Experience of community participation, ownership and empowerment
  • Experience of financial planning and expenditure monitoring
  • Commitment to Save the Children’s child safeguarding Policy
  • Maintains and extends an effective network of individuals within the organization and with government and development partners
  • Able to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment and be a team player
