Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded contract will not retain their contract type if appointed to an ungraded position.

Context:

The Media and Communications Division (MCD) of IOM is comprised of experienced communications professionals based in Geneva as well as various regional offices. The team provides advice and support on media and public information issues to IOM Headquarters and missions worldwide. It is responsible for media relations as well as producing a variety of other public information materials, including official statements to mark special events, information folders, fact sheets and press briefing notes on specific IOM activities for both online and offline communications outlets.

The “It Takes A Community Campaign” (ITAC) is an ongoing global campaign whose aim is to balance the public narrative about migration and migrants worldwide, with a view towards fostering inclusive societies, supporting diversity, and contributing to sustainable development and innovation.

The Digital Campaigns Project Officer will be under the direct supervision of the Social Media Officer.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. In coordination with the Social Media Officer, lead and coordinate the implementation of the ITAC Campaign project.
  2. Lead the project implementation team in regular updating and reporting to the donor(s) and partners. This includes preparing and finalizing interim and final reports, ad hoc donor updates and the preparation of outputs with project stakeholders.
  3. Coordinate the activities of subject matter experts hired to develop content for the campaign.
  4. Coordinate the development and packaging of materials between Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) co-chairs and GFMD working group members.
  5. Coordinate the development and updating of ITAC website.
  6. Coordinate and attend meetings on the roll out and implementation of the GFMD’s ITAC campaign.
  7. Liaise with GFMD focal points in the development of campaign strategies for the roll out of the campaign.
  8. Monitor and provide data insights to relevant stakeholders on the performance of the ITAC campaign.
  9. Manage the curation of media content that is published and shared on the ITAC website and social media platforms
  10. Perform such other duties as may be required.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • Master’s degree in Migration, Communication, Marketing and Media Studies or other relevant Social Sciences (e.g., Humanitarian Affairs, Development Studies, Political Science, International Relations), or a related field from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience; or
  • University degree in the above fields with seven years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

Practical experience of digital content production tools such as design and video editing software.

Skills

  • Sound understanding of migration issues;
  • Excellent research, writing, communication and analytical skills;
  • Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written);
  • Ability to manage teams and coordinate activities;
  • Good understanding of communication campaigns and tools, including engaging audiences via social media and other digital channels;
  • Excellent level of computer literacy;
  • Demonstrated organizational skills;
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a diverse environment;
  • Proven ability to produce accurate, high-quality work and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work independently.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.

External applicants for all positions in the Professional category are required to be proficient in English and have at least a working knowledge of one additional UN Language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian or Chinese).

For all applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge in other official IOM language is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
