Driving this growth is the MicroMentor global team, which has quadrupled in size over the past 5 years, from just 6 staff in 2018 to more than 45 team members projected for FY23. The organization’s expense budget is projected to nearly double between 2022 and 2023 fiscal years, from $2.2 million to $4 million.

MicroMentor’s business model functions as part nonprofit and part social-enterprise, with roughly 30% of revenue coming from grants, and the remaining 70% from fee-for-service products and programs. In 2022 MicroMentor hired its first dedicated Development Manager, which brought strategic partnership management and revenue generation under one role, and highlighted MicroMentor’s investment in its long-term fiscal sustainability.

The Development Officer will be the second dedicated member of the Revenue team, and works directly with the Development Manager and the Executive Director, and cross functionally with all other MicroMentor teams to ensure MicroMentor meets its revenue goals.

The Position

The Development Officer (DO) supports strategic revenue generation alongside the Executive Director and Development Manager, and contributes to meeting key revenue deliverables for raising the agency’s $4 million goal in FY23. The DO will be responsible for owning relationships with two donor/partners in the tier 3 category ($75k and under), and closing the equivalent of $75k in revenue, with a focus on unrestricted grant revenue. They will take ownership of revenue processes with support from the Revenue and Finance team, such as drafting initial proposals, tracking and vetting earned-income leads, managing revenue data entry and reporting in Salesforce, and scheduling and planning for MicroMentor’s Conference calendar and revenue-related travel.

Essential Responsibilities

REVENUE GENERATION & SUPPORT

  • Grant Writing and Proposal Development:
    • Lead coordination for proposals (unless designated otherwise). Throughout the proposal process, monitor the timeline, status of proposal and communicate to the relevant parties as appropriate.
    • Provide input to proposals, ensuring alignment with donor priorities and requirements. In addition, review drafts for coherence, provide copy-editing and rewrites as necessary, and manage submission to the donor.
    • Provide research, data support and information gathering for proposal development
    • Lead the internal coordination of grant and client reporting.
    • Coordinate with Innovations and Insights team to pull internal reports and data for proposal development
    • Lead timeline, coordination, stewardship and compliance of donor and client contracts and agreements.
  • Revenue Data and Tracking:
    • Lead the coordination and screening of incoming leads via the MicroMentor Partnerships email account
    • Lead the Go/No Go Approval process for new opportunities with the appropriate Mercy Corps liaisons
    • Own data entry and tracking processes for grants and sales process within Salesforce and Asana
    • Ensure revenue related data entry is accurate and consistent
    • Manage monthly revenue reporting and tracking against quarterly Key Results
    • Record and distribute notes and action items for revenue-related meetings.
  • Portfolio and Relationship Management
    • Own relationships with up to two donor/partners in the tier 3 category ($75k and under)
    • Accountable for raising up to $100k in revenue through unrestricted or strategically restricted grants, with the support of the revenue team.
    • Work with Development Manager and Communications team to coordinate and implement material and themes for the quarterly newsletter to external partners and the annual impact report
    • Work cross-functionally with the Marketing and Communications team to coordinate and streamline email lists as they relate to revenue communications
  • Conference Circuit Coordination
    • Own the MicroMentor conference circuit planning and management processes.
    • Track registration and speaker submission dates
    • Own coordination of panel and speaker participants and materials as they relate to revenue or revenue team member participation.

Minimum Qualification & Transferable Skills

  • 2+ years experience in a fundraising and/or sales setting
  • 2+ years experience using Salesforce or other CRM to track fundraising efforts and/or revenue generation
  • Experience with proposal development including support and writing with various donors, including private foundations, corporations or the US Government.
  • Excellent time management, organizational and administrative skills
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Grant writing and proposal development experience required
  • Experience with B2B sales and lead generation preferred
  • Proven ability to manage projects with competing priorities
  • Excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in teams to develop processes for successful project management
  • Understanding of international development and/or social enterprises preferred

The successful Development Officer is energized by the nuances of complex revenue systems and gets excited about closing deals and organizing processes! They enjoy creating processes for data management, tracking progress toward goals and gathering data to support proposal development and grant reporting. They take up writing projects with alacrity, are comfortable with uncertainty and skillfully interact with cross-functional teams to complete tasks required to move projects forward. A successful DO responds effectively to quick turn-around times and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Living Conditions / Environmental Conditions

The position based in Portland, OR or US-based remote. If the candidate is remote, they must have at least 5 working hours per day overlapping with Pacific Standard work-day time zones.
