Based in the Washington, DC home office of IESC, the Development Manager position is an exciting opportunity for an organized, motivated individual to manage and grow the fundraising operation from the ground up within an established, well-respected, and impactful nonprofit. The Development Manager, reporting to and working with the President & CEO, will be instrumental in establishing the fundraising operation within IESC, to complement IESC’s primary funding secured through large-scale competitive proposals.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Development Manager position is full-time and based in IESC’s Washington, DC office, reporting to IESC’s President & CEO.

Development Planning and Leadership Engagement

  • Implement and manage the detailed annual development plan and timeline
  • Work collaboratively with the President & CEO, including preparing materials for donor meetings
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key IESC charitable fundraising stakeholders

  • Creatively engage a Development Committee, to be formed in 2022, and Board members, to leverage their networks in support of fundraising efforts

  • Report to the President & CEO on fundraising activities and progress against goals

  • Monitor and evaluate the success of fundraising campaigns and initiatives, and implement best practices and lessons learned in future campaigns

Development Office Management

  • Maintain the donor database records and pull associated reports
  • Conduct gift entry, financial reconciliation, and timely, personalized stewardship for donors
  • Develop key fundraising documents and support all organizational fundraising efforts

  • Design and build systems and processes for charitable fundraising

  • Establish and manage document filing system on the IESC Global SharePoint site

  • Oversee and manage contracted consultants

  • Ensure that all legal reporting and compliance requirements are met

Donor Research and Engagement

  • Conduct prospect research among IESC’s existing stakeholder list and identify new potential individual, foundation, and corporate donors
  • Help develop donor and prospect cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies
  • Develop letters, proposals, and reports for funders
  • Form and maintain relationships with key donors and funders

Communications

  • Implement and manage the annual communications plan for charitable fundraising
  • Work with IESC’s Communications Manager in the implementation of IESC’s new customer relationship management system in 2022, as it relates to charitable fundraising
  • Help design and oversee enhancements to IESC’s website related to charitable fundraising, including the “How to Give” page
  • Assist with the development and dissemination of marketing and promotional materials, postings on social media, and organizational newsletters

Perform other related duties as requested

Qualifications:

  • Excited about international economic development and the mission and programs of IESC
  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of development or related experience
  • Motivated, entrepreneurial, confident, and organized self-starter
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills
  • Excellent networking skills
  • Experience working collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of constituents
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Fluency in English required
