HALO is known for its work to clear landmines but is very much involved in the disposal of other explosive hazards such as bombs, rockets, missiles, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). HALO was established in Afghanistan in 1988 and now employs over 9,500 staff in 26 countries and territories.

HALO USA are recruiting for a Development Manager (we call it a Philanthropy Engagement Manager here at HALO) to generate growth of philanthropic (high net worth) partnerships by leading the cultivation of existing relationships and managing the ambassador council and the organization of special events for direct fundraising and new account referrals.

About the role:

Key Responsibilities:

  • With support from the Head of Development to coordinate the development and delivery of relationship strategies for key major donor accounts, focusing on the strategic development of relationships.
  • Personally cultivate key U/HNW donor and account relationships, providing excellence in supporter stewardship.
  • Lead on the development and project management of engagement activities for donors and advocates across the philanthropy team and wider organization, including a number of special events.
  • Support senior HALO staff, ambassadors, and trustees to lead relationships with individuals linked to the agreed relationships.
  • Personally develop and manage a portfolio of prospective accounts, guiding them through the various cultivation phases and ultimately securing new funding in line with HALO’s strategic funding priorities and global prospect list.
  • Manage account plans, records, and correspondence in Salesforce.
  • With support from the Head of Development develops and oversees the delivery of the individual giving plan, with oversight of donor management and stewardship of mid and high-level accounts through the line management of the Digital Marketing Officer.
  • Work with HALO Leadership on the recruitment of new HALO Ambassadors.
  • Manage the communication, engagement, and growth of the members of the Ambassador Council.
  • Develop Ambassador announcement plans and support salon-style special events, as needed.
  • Work closely with colleagues in the UK and overseas programs as part of a distributed team to provide support to global fundraising efforts.
  • Responsible to oversee and manage the Digital Marketing Officer role.

Who we’re looking for:

Essential Qualities

  • Significant experience of personally cultivating successful relationships with U/HNW and high-value accounts, particularly those giving at the six or seven-figure level.
  • Significant experience in working/communicating with CEOs, high-value clients, and boards of Trustees, and in building positive and effective relationships
  • Significant experience in the delivery of high-value and creative special fundraising/cultivation events
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to build relationships with staff and colleagues in different cultural environments
  • Confident in working with financial information including budgets
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to demonstrate tact, sophistication, and gravitas
  • Experience in working with a fundraising database to maximize relationship development
  • A commitment to HALO’s mission and objectives
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and the ability to articulate HALO’s various programmes and strategies in a compelling way
  • Tenacious, self-starting, and able to thrive in a fluid, entrepreneurial context
  • Collaborative, team player, with a good sense of humour and a low-ego
  • Outstanding project management skills

Desirable Qualities

  • Experience in high-value fundraising
  • Experience in pipeline and account development in different US markets and/or Canada.

The HALO Trust USA employee benefits for full-time employees include:

Vacation Time: 25 days (5 weeks) paid vacation (PTO) accrued at 16.667 hours per month.

Sick Leave: 5 days (1 week) paid Sick-Leave. Sick Leave cannot be ‘carried-over’ to the next year.

Holidays: HALO USA observes all USA Federal holidays.

Savings Plan: A 401(k) retirement savings plan is offered to our employees, but managed entirely through our Payroll provider, Insperity. HALO USA will ‘match’ up to 5% of an employee’s contributed monthly savings to their 401(k) account.
