What do we do?

We believe that victims and survivors of grave crimes should have access to justice wherever they live. Partners in Justice International (PJI) works to make this vision a reality by partnering with local justice actors to challenge impunity for atrocity crimes, advance justice for victims where they live, and build resilience to sustain peace and democracy long term. PJI strengthens justice processes for victims and survivors of grave crimes such as crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide, including crimes of conflict-related sexual violence.

  • We provide practical support to serious crime prosecutors, victim representatives, and investigators working in post-conflict and post-dictatorship jurisdictions;
  • We facilitate the circulation and exchange of knowledge and experience locally and among practitioners and experts around the globe; and
  • We intervene strategically in litigation and international procedures at the highest levels to advance the rights of victims and survivors of atrocity crimes.

We are a looking for someone who loves cultivating relationships with individuals and organisations, who is as happy speaking with volunteers as with ambassadors and board members. Someone who loves making human rights a reality through creative fostering of strategic partnerships.

This role contributes to PJI’s overall mission by spearheading fund development efforts from design through execution, that is, securing donor funds to implement the strategic vision of the organization, primarily by providing solicitation, stewardship, and research, supporting partner cultivation and individual giving activities with program partners, supporters, and donors, and managing information systems.

The Strategic Partnerships Consultant will report to the Director, based on goals, tasks and assignments and collaborate with other program, fiscal, and administrative team members.

We are looking for someone with superb written communication and outreach skills, excellent project and self-management skills, and a strong attention to detail and deadlines. Candidate should be committed to the non-profit/social justice/human rights field.

Your Responsibilities:

Individual Giving and Institutional Partnerships

  • With the directors, lead process to design and articulate development strategy, working with members of the Board of Directors, team members, and partners, with the aim of engaging strategic partners for resource mobilisation;
  • Play a leadership role in development of strategic institutional partnerships;
  • Develop and support planned activities to advance PJI’s partnership and donor outreach, cultivation, and development, including foundation and philanthropic partners, individual and high net worth donors, private funders, UN partners, and government funders;
  • Draft, design, produce and distribute PJI hard-copy and online outreach and development materials;
  • Design and draft PJI correspondence, including communications to solicit and engage new partners, funders and supporters including annual year end appeals and stewardship pieces;
  • Collect information from program team members and use this data to draft and edit reports;
  • Conduct, guide and assist partner and donor prospect research, outreach, cultivation and engagement;
  • Tracking of deadlines and deliverables; and
  • Maintain files on funders, grants, and contribute to grant reporting.

Grant Writing and Grants Management

  • Collaborate with PJI’s directors and team members who develop and design programming to proactively articulate programs in funding applications and to donors (foundation, individual, UN and government donors);
  • Guide and manage the grant solicitation and reporting processes in a timely manner, while ensuring compliance and accountability;
  • Build and maintain relations with foundations, individuals, UN and government funders, including research, solicitation, communications, and reporting; and
  • Work with PJI’s directors and team members to package PJI’s human rights work into both project-specific (restricted) and general operations (unrestricted) funding proposals.

Event Management

  • Help design strategies, plan, organize, publicize and then work independently to implement partner/donor cultivation events (online or in-person), including outreach, logistics, and program;
  • Contribute to development of cultivation events and prospects;
  • Help manage logistics, caterers, venues, audio-visual and production team, and volunteers working on events; and
  • Participate in event planning and execution, including management and administrative tasks.

Database Administration

  • Manage and maintain relational database of partners, foundations, general contacts and resources to ensure timely and accurate input of information and to analyse trends and performance;
  • Produce routine and ad hoc data and reports for management;
  • Maintain electronic and hard copy files on partners, supporters and funders; and
  • Coordinate with accounting to reconcile fiscal and partner/donor relationship maintenance systems; and
  • Build queries and run analytics to be used to evaluate the success of and improve upon campaigns.

Administrative Support for Partnerships

  • Provide support for partnership engagement meetings and activities;
  • Working with management and program staff provide income projections and input into the organizational budgeting process,
  • Set up an annual calendar for communications with strategic partners and foundations and major deadlines and events, and
  • Other detailed tasks as assigned.

Consultant Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years demonstrated professional experience in the field of strategic partnerships and fundraising. Specific experience with foundations, philanthropy, private sector, UN and/or government portfolios is preferred;
  • Proven track record in directly securing funds and establishment of partnerships with foundations, philanthropy, private sector, UN and/or government partners highly desirable;
  • Understanding of the innovative trends in non-profit fundraising, diversification of income streams;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with strong attention to detail;
  • Excellent computer skills in Word, Excel or comparable programs;
  • Excellent skills with CRM databases, online foundation research systems, and other development tools;
  • Experience with email outreach programs such as MailChimp;
  • Ability to work independently and strength in multi-tasking, goal-setting and workload prioritization with strong attention to accuracy and detail;
  • Positive and creative attitude, including on creative projects and development materials;
  • Commitment to human rights and PJI’s mission.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat) or similar programs is preferred,
  • Broad international experience an asset;
  • Knowledge of French or Spanish an asset.
  • Please note that PJI maintains a remote office, so the consultant is expected to work from home.
