Development Associate, Public Sector Partnerships and Grants Fundraising

The Development Associate works to support the (International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) public-sector fundraising by managing relationships with strategic partners and supporting ICTJ grants fundraising. Reporting to Director of Development (DOD).

Under the supervision of the DOD, the Development Associate will,

  • Manage ICTJ’s public sector donor portfolio by:
    • Coordinating all grant cycle activities from cultivation to stewardship.
    • Ensuring personal and institutional clarity about donor needs and requirements through efficient communication with donors and internal ICTJ stakeholders.
    • Managing the proposal and reporting process, including meeting all deadlines throughout the grant cycle.
    • Working with Program and Finance staff to prepare for submission to donors written materials such as proposals, reports, and budgets.
    • Managing donor recognition.
    • Ensuring that all relevant deadlines, cash payments, and interactions with donors and prospects are properly and timely recorded.
    • Serving as a key point of contact for donors and prospects.
  • Work to increase grants fundraising according to institutional priorities by:
    • Staying abreast of funding trends through funding and policy research and dialogue with peers and continually map funding opportunities.
    • Working with stakeholders within ICTJ and the donor community to create access.
    • Liaising with Program staff, Senior Management, and leadership to stay abreast of ICTJ goals, priorities and activities and align them with those of funders.
    • Working with DOD and Program leadership colleagues on developing donor engagement strategies including briefings, events, visits to donor capitals.
    • Contributing to communications strategies that raise ICTJ institutional profile in the funding community.
  • Support annual development planning process by:
    • Providing evidence-based strategic inputs and projections.
    • Continuously evaluating progress towards achieving financial goals for the public-sector portfolio and provide quarterly revisions.
  • Oversee production of relevant public sector meetings to support fundraising activities.
  • Maintain up-to-date contact list for the public-sector portfolio.

Other duties as assigned.

Professional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree required; advanced studies degree is desirable.
  • Minimum of three years of work experience with government donors or with a grantmaking institution.
  • Superior writing, editing, and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional Interpersonal Skills: Must be able to explain complex issues to the external stakeholders and communicate effectively with people from other cultures.
  • Ability to work independently and in a flexible environment; balance multiple priorities, meet strict deadlines and deliverables.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to advance the development plan implementation.
  • Must have strong research and analytical skills, and the ability to solve problems and exercise good judgment.
  • Interest in human rights issues and international affairs, as well as fluency in a foreign language are highly desirable.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office and Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising database is desirable.

Salary Range: $70K-80K USD range annually, commensurate with expertise and knowledge.
