Role Purpose

Responsible for leading and ensuring the delivery of high quality, personalised care and support in accordance with all statutory, national, organisational and departmental guidelines. The clinical deputy will be able to evidence a high level of knowledge and expertise in the clinical areas as well a high level of commitment to service development. The clinical deputy will take responsibility for ensuring clinical staff maintain their professional knowledge and are up to date with developments pertaining to their role and registration. To ensure the complex clinical needs of service users are recognised and managed within a social care environment. To provide effective leadership through resource management and ensure key performance targets are met. The clinical deputy will be responsible for ensuring close relationships with GPs, Community Mental Health teams, Acute trusts, other health providers and care professionals to ensure that high quality, accessible services are delivered. Ensure that FNC are made in a timely manner. Ensure that CHC applications are identified and applied for without delay.

Work with the Registered Manager to ensure high quality nursing standards are delivered.

  • Deputising for the registered Manager in their absence.
  • Provide strong leadership across the service.
  • Carrying out pre-admission nursing assessments in both in the community and acute trusts.
  • Carry out and update MCA and DOLS assessments.
  • Provide support and supervision to clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • Provide advice and support to staff on complex clinical care.
  • Ensure that clinical staff are kept up to date with required training and competencies and clinical update.
  • Provide induction and mentorship for new members of staff, apprentices, and students.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed and adverse events are reported and investigated
  • Work with the Registered Manager to ensure care and support is delivered to comply with CQC standards, the Health and Social care Act 2008, the NMC code of Conduct.
  • Work and liaise with other agencies to ensure the best possible outcome for service users, the service, and the department
  • Ensure the continuous professional growth and development of themselves and all is maintained and updated in line with NMC revalidation requirements.
  • Maintaining good communication and relationships with relatives.
  • Carry out clinical audits and quality checks to ensure care is being provided to the highest standard.
  • To support the registered Manager with the implementation and evaluation of quality outcome measures.
  • Support with clinical competency assessments and provide support to staff who require improvement.
  • Support registered manage to manage resources effectively specifically to include efficient and safe staffing levels within budget, and effective deployment of staff throughout the unit. Key Decisions Identifying, analysing, and reporting clinical incidents and errors for clinical governance
  • Investigation of complaints, incidents, and critical incidents.
  • To work within all HCC/HR policies and to engage in actions as necessary.
  • Audit and quality assurance
  • Compliance with practice guidance, policy, and procedure
  • Support planning and documentation is compliant and of high standard
  • Role model good practice and provide support to all staff on the floor where required
  • Clinical and non-clinical risk assessments.
  • Support with effective infection prevention and control.
  • Support the Registered Manager with emotional support and wellbeing of staff.
