OVERVIEW

The Deputy Director of Programme Development and Quality (DDPDQ) will work closely with the Director of Programme Development and Quality (DPDQ) in supporting the strategic direction and coordination of the Country Office programme and ensuring the development and delivery of high-quality programmes that create immediate and lasting change for children. In particular, the DDPDQ will lead, build, support and sustain a team of highly qualified, ambitious and technical leaders that lead sectoral representation, programme development, sectoral MEAL, and technical capacity building for program teams and partners.

THE ROLE

Key areas of accountability include:

  • As a member of the Extended Senior Management Team, contribute to overall leadership of the Country Office.
  • Strategic Planning & Thought Leadership
  • Technical Excellence (guidelines/common approaches/training modules)
  • Representation and Advocacy
  • Staff Management, Mentorship, and Development

To be a strong supporter and advocate for children in this role you will need to demonstrate:

  • Master’s degree in social sciences; economics; natural resource management or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ management experience in an NGO environment, and experience directing and implementing programs for children in both emergency and development contexts, preferably with solid experience in more than one of the Save the Children priority sectors: education, protection, health and nutrition, FSL.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international and matrix management environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mind sets.
  • Experience solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy-in.
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner.
  • Ability and willingness to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies.
  • Ability and willingness to spend up to 30% of time visiting programmes and projects and supporting implementation teams.
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.
